The biggest threat to South Palm Beach is erosion of trust from inconsistent decision-making and unrealistic capital planning. Residents were told the new Town Hall was scaled back, yet it reappeared at nearly 11,000 sq. ft. with a café and “fully funded” claims, even though not all funds are in the bank. Essential needs like the $3–4M lift station must be addressed, and soil remediation would be required only if demolition proceeds. Leadership must prioritize critical infrastructure, protect seniors, and ensure growth and spending decisions are transparent, realistic, and resident-focused.
South Palm Beach’s greatest strength is its engaged, close-knit community. Residents care deeply about their town and its character. By keeping communication open, seeking resident input on projects, and prioritizing thoughtful, transparent leadership, we can protect our quality of life while guiding responsible growth.
As representatives of our residents—primarily seniors on fixed incomes who are increasingly priced out by rising property taxes—it is our responsibility to ensure the security of true homeownership.
Plans to replace the existing Town Hall, which accommodates only five staff members, with a new facility costing four to five times our annual tax revenue, would leave no funds for critical infrastructure repairs. We must prioritize public safety and essential services, forgoing vanity projects, and focus on maintaining the infrastructure that residents rely on every day.
South Palm Beach can save money by prioritizing essential services and carefully evaluating big projects before committing funds. Streamlining operations, reducing unnecessary overhead, and seeking grants or shared services can maximize every dollar. Residents benefit when the Town spends smartly and focuses on safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.
South Palm Beach currently does not have a significant homeless population, but we remain committed to complying with House Bill 1365. The Town will ensure public spaces remain safe and accessible, and work with local agencies if supportive services are ever needed. We prioritize both resident safety and proactive, responsible management.

The current Council is addressing an issue identified years ago --the deteriorating Town Hall and need for a safe, efficient, well-designed building to meet future needs. While dealing with this, Council is concurrently addressing other issues effectively also--a new lift station, traffic/town corridor issues, rising tides/flood zones, beach renourishment, etc. By planning for a new modernized Town Hall, Council will address the future for even more efficient, expansive, improved community service for our residents.
Our town's greatest strength is solid management of resources while engaging in futuristic planning--positive leadership by our Town Manager/Staff/Current Council, supporting the interests and wellbeing of our residents. Our residents take pride in our small Town and its services, activities and events. We build on this strength through productive relationships, communication, enlisting volunteers, and innovative opportunities. Great strength in collaboration and futuristic thinking!
Although on the surface it might appear that eliminating property taxes would be a good thing, in reality it would not be good for all and is a complicated matter. If certain taxes are significantly reduced or eliminated for retirees, the tax burden would increase more for younger families, those of lower income, renters, etc., to fund our needed services. Thus, locally the Town may have to raise other taxes to obtain funds to address our needs.
In our Town, the DOGE audit is not currently impacting us directly. In South Palm Beach, as leaders we are always looking for ways to give the best service and goods for the best price. Current Council strives for efficient, effective spending of our Town's funds to meet our needs. As one example, by improving the system for permits and paying bills through online services, the Town has improved efficiency and reduced costs.
Our small town of South Palm Beach is only about 5/8 mile long with only one road (South Ocean Blvd./A1A), no parks, and with only 4 homes and 28 condominiums. This law, HB1365, does not currently present an issue for us. However, if any resident or person presents a need, SPB leaders will assist in all appropriate ways. We care about people!

Misinformation, if people would come to council meetings a lot of this misinformation would be corrected. They need to read information put out by the Town Hall.
That we are a small beach community of responsible residents who are like minded. Most want to keep the small beach community feel.
I hope the Legislators come to a plan that works for small as well as large cities and towns. Our town South Palm Beach relies on property taxes for almost all our revenue. We cannot afford to lose that revenue that pays for the sheriff’s department, fire departments and so much more.
I’m all for DOGE we need to be fiscally responsible. Our town has passed the audits with not even a small correction needed. Flying Colors !
Our town has only the town hall property no other public land areas. Thank goodness we don’t have this problem yet. I don’t see it as a future problem.

Being a coastal town, one would expect me to say hurricanes/beach erosion. And these are very formidable. But Bonnie, our neighbors, and FL DEP are doing all that can be done to protect us in that arena. So, I move to what is not so well guarded against - - manipulative people, those who would influence innocent citizens to create false impressions.
For example, recently a Coastal Star reporter called to tell me he was told we "tore up a contract" in 2022. He asked about the story behind it and I assured him there was no story; it never happened. I gave him our attorney's cellphone to corroborate (which he did).
Had the reporter not confirmed, the lie could have been spread and accepted as truth. Bottom line, if you can't check, doubt.
We’ve got the beauty of the ocean and its sunrises and the Intracoastal with its sunsets! We even had a Town artist who further beautified the town with a turtle mascot and mosaics.
We’ve got proximity without hassle. We can walk to a supermarket and there's dozens of nearby restaurants of various ethnic groups, but there’s no entity pushing you to go somewhere to support the local economy.
Our focus is on the people who make up our family, not on money-making. We pride ourselves on financial stability while keeping our taxes low. We don’t have schools or roads or pollution. We know our police officers and they know us.
Okay, so we quarrel sometimes; but we make up. Outsiders don’t always get us, but we stay strong - - Family strong.
We are in good financial shape, but the loss of property tax would obviously be keenly felt. Our only options would be to go back to charging for the free services we provide (such as exercise classes) and/or raising permit fees. If this is not enough, we might need to consider staff reduction.
What I have read about DOGE audits In Palm Beach County includes providing information on transportation, homeless services, property and leases, employee compensation as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion. For a town the size of South Palm Beach, savings, if any, might be a few hundred - - certainly not in the tens of thousands.
We have no parks, no homeless - therefore no HB 1365 issue.
