Environmental resiliency is critical to our Town. We need to understand the science and determine possible solutions and sources of funding. The 2026 Jupiter Inlet Colony Resilient Action Plan/Vulnerability Assessment, and the topographic/boundary survey of the Town’s beach, is our first step to addressing this issue.
Our Town's greatest strength is our neighbors and strong sense of community. I have been a member of JIC for over 30 years, and during that time I have witnessed neighbors caring for each other and our community in so many ways – checking in on neighbors, gathering at community events, participating in beach clean-ups.... I think we all agree that we have something special here in JIC. The Town has an important role in fostering ways our community can come together. Established Social Committee activities like the Welcome Back parties and new events like the Veteran’s Day breakfast and the Holiday Meet and Greet are great ways for our neighbors to connect.
Property taxes comprise 81% of our Town's General Fund Revenue. The potential elimination of property taxes is an issue of great significance to our Town. As of December 2, 2025, there are four approved proposals by the House’s Select Committee on Property Taxes. All four seek to reduce property taxes in a variety of ways, including direct exemptions or portability limits. All of the proposals protect funding for schools and law enforcement. Which, if any, proposal is passed would guide further actions. In the meantime, the Town should strive to understand the proposals and their impact to best position ourselves for any amendment passed in 2027.
I support our Town's Strategic Priority of fiscal responsibility focused, in part, on building the Town’s reserves. At present, the Town can secure its financial position by continuing to build a strong reserve (potentially raising the base targeted amount), paying down debt, and applying a measured approach to government spending.
Should this arise I am confident our Town will successfully manage the issue under the new law.
