FSPS does a great job at having a neighborhood feel towards its schools, specifically the elementary schools that are scattered throughout the City. This type of community feel is essential towards building a successful coalition of students, parents, teachers and facility that make FSPS what it is. As a board member we should continue to support that initiative.
FSPS has been educating Fort Smith students for well over 100years. Somewhere in the last 20 we have lost our ability to attract and retain additional students. Recent data shows roughly 14,000 (roughly flat over the past 25yrs, while other districts have grown) students and a district budget of over $200Million, how do we adequately ensure all students are receiving a quality education? and that taxpayer funds are being used in a manor intended? The School Board should be diligent in ensuring all funds are used properly and "cost savings" measures are implemented where possible.
