Over their two-year term, a JP is responsible for:Setting real estate, personal property and sales tax rates in the county.Determining the final budget for county departments and offices - including salaries - and appropriating funds for county expenses.Preserving the peace and order in the county, though they do not have the authority to make any offense a felony. This often takes the form of passing county laws and in some counties making planning decisions.Contract or join with any other county or city, or the federal government for a public purpose.Creating, consolidating, separating, or abandoning any elected office in the county if first approved by voters.Filling vacancies in elected county offices.Providing for any service or performance of any function related to county affairs.Many Quorum Courts also have subcommittees that JPs serve on and discuss the more nitty gritty details before an issue appears before the whole group. I see my duties as a Justice Of The Peace as

Oversee county government appropriations, and spending make sure that the county budget does not exceed the 90% legal appropriation maximum Help forge, appropriate transparent county government practices, and procedures in the delivery of county services and conduction of county business As a Justice of the Peace it is important that I monitor and where appropriate help in providing good quality services to Jefferson County citizens Developing and passing quality legislation helps to secure the future of Jefferson County It is a Justices responsibility to vote against improper legislation and bad practices within county government
I believe that my over 20 tenure and knowledge of county government gives me a unique perspective that my opponents do not have

My commitment and history of, speaking out and supporting quality of life issues and fairness in public policy gives me a perspective that neither of opponents have

My nearly 30 years of administrative experience in the Pine Bluff school district, as a building level and district level administrator gives me the managerial, policy development and implementation perspective needed in this position I am familiar with many of the Arkansas Statues that are prescribed for operating County Government
I want to propose legislation revising our current procedure ordinance.

This process will include researching several County procedure ordinances throughout the state, soliciting input from current Justice Of The Peace, county legal representation, county elected officials, county citizens and finally developing legislation that can be voted on, hopefully amending the current procedure ordinance.
