What motivated you to run for this office?

Describe your strongest competency and life experience that qualify you to hold this office.

During your campaign, what is the number one concern expressed to you by residents? What is your response to this concern?

Other than the issues previously addressed, what are your top three priorities, and, if elected, how would you address them?

Raised in a career Navy family, I was taught the importance of public service from an early age. Before being elected Judge of County Court at Law #3, I also served as municipal court judge, in addition to my own trial practice. As a trial attorney for over 35 years, I realized the importance of accessibility to the courtroom to the people in our community. I wanted to ensure that all litigants had a right to present their case. I felt that as a Judge I could give that back to our community. It has been a dream come true to serve the community I grew up in and to dispense justice fairly and impartially. I decided to run for County Court at Law #3 to fulfill these goals and I am proud to be your elected judge for the last 14 years.
For 35 years as an attorney and 17 years as a Judge, I have tried numerous criminal, civil, family and probate cases. I helped establish Nueces County’s For the Sake of One program, offering an alternative path for individuals arrested due to cycles of abuse, victimization and sex trafficking, partnering with the Coastal Bend Wellness Foundation, Nueces District Attorney’s Office, CCPD and Grace House. I have received the NAACP President’s Award, New Life Refuge Ministries Award, Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Mi Casa Es Su Casa Award, Certificate of Appreciation from the Coastal Bend Coalition Against Modern Day Slavery Award, CCPD Crime Stoppers Award and New York Life Women in Leadership Award.
While campaigning, I would often hear from people who knew me that I would make a difference, and the people who did not know me asked me to make a difference. Voters often expressed to me their fears that the Judge would not listen to them or they would not get their day in court. I promised that if elected, all people in the court would be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. It would be the people’s court. I promised that I would help create and foster those programs that would help victims of mental illness, sex trafficking and drug and alcohol abuse. I have proudly kept these promises for the last three terms I have served as your Judge and will continue to do so.
If re-elected, my top three priorities would be to keep my courtroom the people’s court with access to everyone. To work hard to foster the programs I have created to make our community safe, and to create new programs to help those in need. I maintain my commitment that each party before the court should receive a full and fair hearing or trial, with the law applied equally and without bias, while ensuring respect for the parties and the judicial process. I will continually improve the specialty programs I have created, as well as explore other programs that can improve community safety.
