By their own example, my parents instilled in my siblings and me a sense of duty to serve our communities. I initially ran for this office to serve our community to ensure the 148th District Court was accessible and working for this community. I decided to seek re-election to continue the work accomplished over the last three years.
As a practicing lawyer, I tried every type of case that comes through the 148th District Court. Prior to being elected, I understood the issues from the perspective of an attorney. As the sitting judge, I have also come to understand the issues from the court’s perspective as well. Upon being elected in 2022, I assembled a team of hardworking professionals who are also dedicated to ensuring justice is delivered in a timely manner. As a team, we have worked hard to reduce the backlog of cases in the court, which has also saved the community’s tax dollars. We have also been able to effectively increase accessibility to the court.
The number one concern I heard while seeking election in 2022 was the court was not accessible or available for hearings. We addressed the issue by conducting morning and afternoon dockets designed to be more flexible and accommodating to attorney schedules. Zoom is also a tool that continues to be used in appropriate instances to accommodate schedules and costs.
The 148th District Court strives to ensure that cases are decided in a just, fair, and timely manner. As judge, I review materials provided by the parties carefully and ask for explanation and authority in hearings. I do my best to provide timely rulings and our flexible dockets allow parties and attorneys to get their cases in front of the court quickly for a timely resolution. We continuously review our case files to identify cases which are not active to be addressed by the court. I attend several conferences each year to stay on top of new developments in the law in cases which typically come through the 148th District Court.
