Arkansas House District #50
The duties of a Representative in the Arkansas House include writing, introducing, and debating bills, service to our constituents by helping in any services or needs they may have, as well as working in committees to research and review bills before they go on the House floor for consideration.
I am a public school teacher with 15 years experience. In connection with that role, I have advocated for educators and students at the local, state, and national levels. I have helped develop state curriculum that is still in use today, I work with the Department of Education in the area of teacher ethics, and I have gathered signatures on petitions that would enhance our public schools against the recent voucher movement. I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. I know how to recognize difficulties and create solutions to those problems. And if I don't know an answer, I'm not afraid to ask for help and do my research.
I plan to write a bill that will put a form of Fair Teacher Dismissal back on the Arkansas lawbooks. The repeal of that Act has had a devastating impact on stability and moral of our veteran teachers. I will work with a coalition including the Arkansas Education Association and Public Education Strong to create fair and equitable legislation that both protects our teachers and allows administration to release those educators who are not meeting our high standards.
