State Representative duties include participation in general and special assemblies of the Arkansas State House of Representatives, participate in the discussion, deliberation, and voting during assemblies in a manner that reflects the wishes of the representative’s constituency. Participate in assigned committee meetings to discuss, deliberate, present wishes of constituency on matters, and vote to move forward legislation which serves the wishes of citizens of Arkansas. After discussions with constituents, draft and put forward bills which may be considered for adoption by the committee and voted on for approval by the legislative bodies. Respond to all requests by constituents to speak on matters concerning state laws.
As a former Justice of the Peace in Benton County, I bring with me the understanding of how to govern according to the will of the people. I have the negotiation, debating, and innovative skills needed to change minds and influence colleagues. As a 20-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps I learned leadership skills, mission orientation, and the willingness to defend a position for the betterment of my countrymen. As a cattle rancher for over 34-years I learned to trust in God for the resources needed to endure and remain true to my values. As a volunteer for many of NW Arkansas non-profit organizations I learned how to help others become the best version of themselves. Most of all, I bring common sense solutions to all matters.
In the first 100 days, I would lead the effort for “living wage” legislation which not only raises the minimum of the lowest paid in our state, but also compels large companies of 50+ employees to raise the wage of all their hourly workers by an equivalent portion. This living wage will have a regional variant with higher increases in parts of the state where prosperity and the cost of living is greater and not as high where such increases are less warranted by local economies. I would join the movement to restore women’s reproductive rights. I would champion a legislative effort to assure women have prenatal care in rural areas and prenatal education for women of color throughout the state.
