Travis County Judge, County Court at Law No. 4

Texas County Courts at Law: Four-year terms. The county courts at law hear bench trials and jury trials. The County Courts at Law of Travis County hear:(a) Civil cases in which the amount in controversy is $500-$250,000, excluding interest, statutory or punitive damages and penalties, attorneys’ fees and costs, as alleged on the face of the petition.(b) Eminent domain (condemnation) cases regardless of the amount in controversy;(c) Appeals of final rulings and decisions of the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission regardless of the amount in controversy;(d) Criminal offenses which are either class A or B misdemeanors;(e) Appeals from Justice of the Peace Courts and Municipal Courts within Travis County;(f) Cases seeking a protective order pursuant to Chapter 71, Texas Family Code;(g) Occupational Drivers Licenses;(h) Appeals from the State Office of Administrative Hearings concerning Administrative License Revocations;(i). County Court at Law No. 4 also has jurisdiction of state jail felony and third-degree felony cases involving family violence.While the County Courts at Law also have jurisdiction in probate and mental health matters, those cases are heard primarily by Probate Court No. 1 of Travis County.
