I'm able to secure critical funding for my district and push agencies on issues that are important to my constituents. I have the experience and relationships that allow me to be effective in Congress
The bottom line is that Congress controls the power of the purse. As an appropriator, we take very seriously how the federal government spends the money it is provided. Ultimately, we decide how and when funding is providing, which provides a critical check on the administration.
I believe we have a critical role in protecting first amendment rights. We have a duty to fight against the passage of laws that undermine those rights and an obligation to provide oversight and vigilance of attempts to hurt these critical rights.
Tariffs aren’t reducing our deficit – they’re raising costs for American families and hurting border communities like ours that depend on trade, commerce, and stability. Congress has the ultimate authority in terms of tariffs.
I believe in an all the above energy approach. I live in South Texas where the oil and gas industry is critical to not only the local community but the overall economy. However, we are also leaders in terms of wind and solar power. I believe through permitting reform and innovation, we can grow the economy while protecting the environment.
I believe the federal government has a critical role in ensuring folks are not left behind in terms of access to healthcare. As a senior member of Congress, I am actively working to extend the ACA subsidies so that we can protect everyday Americans from prices spiking in the new year.
I have extensive business experience and I understand what it takes to be successful in business. Also I am familiar with importing/exporting to Mexico, free trade, banking & the stock & bond market.
I would protect the legistlative and judicial branch as much as possible seeing that the executive branch has been acquiring more power and ignoring the other branches with executive orders. We see this with the current executive order on Tariffs which the supreme court should overturn and return that power back to the legistlative branch. Tarriffs have been very damaging to business.
I believe in Freedom. People may not like what other people have to say or what they think but they don't have to listen either. The right to free speech and peaceful assembly must be protected except when it endangers the public and national security.
Only Congress has the power to set tariffs. Tariffs can bankrupt a small company. Tariffs can keep small businesses from competing against large corporations. The direct importation from China from companies such as Temu offers no wealth or job creation in The United States and must be kept in check. However tariffs should have the least impact on small businesses from importing products
I would reduce regulations on clean energy such as wind energy and create a fast track program for gas and nuclear power plants. I would make sure we can import energy from Mexico and Canada. We must create government programs to spur investment in renewable energy if we are to compete with China and the demand hi tech companies need to build data centers and still keep energy affordable.
Enforce rules that require hospitals and insurers to publish clear prices so consumers can compare costs. Expand the government's ability to negotiate prices for high-cost prescription drugs and capping out-of-pocket costs for seniors. Extend "enhanced" tax credits for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to prevent premium spikes for middle-income families. Create a soveriegn wealth fund to pay for it.
I am a Doctor, Army veteran, have four Master’s degrees: business administration, leadership, public affairs (policy), public leadership, and have been a healthcare advocate for over 20 years.
The government should work for us, not against us. We need to stand up and fight against fraud, waste and abuse, or the weaponization of the government. These can be accomplished by writing legislation, calling in department heads to report and testify before congressional hearings, and by controlling the purse of said departments or programs.
I lead by example and have protested to bring attention to different policies at the local, state, and federal level. I have put out public statements, marched, participated in demonstrations, have testified before the state legislature, and have had dialogue with lawmakers to resolve policies or provide solutions. As a legislator, I will continue to protect our First Amendment rights.
Congress's role as stated in Article I of the U.S. Constitution gives Congress the power to "lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises" and regulate foreign commerce. This power has been delegated to the Executive branch but needs to reigned back so that consumers and businesses can rely on stable tariff policies that deeply impact costs of goods and services from imports and exports.
Energy independence is very important, to get there we need to have a balance of fossil and renewable energy being generated. Our reliance on fossil fuels holds us reliant on OPEC countries' production and pricing. Therefore, we need to expand and grow renewables to decrease our dependence on OPEC and use our own reserves in a manner that is practical and conscious of the environmental impacts.
I believe the federal government has an obligation to enable and promote a healthier population through scientifically proven public health policies such as communicable diseases or nutritional guidelines.
I also believe affordable healthcare should be a right for all, not a luxury for some. This is done funding the right programs. When people can't get medical care, and we all pay the price.
