Greene County Judge
The county judge has a dual role in county government, executive and judicial. The executive role is fulfilled in regular daily duties in approving disbursement of funds, overseeing the maintenance and improvements of our county facilities and assignment of vehicles and equipment, and managing our county road system. The county judge presides over the quorum court, which for our county is the legislative body for Greene County with 11 justices of the peace. In the county judge's judicial role, matters of property tax valuations and landlocked cases can be heard in county court, and official county road business may be handled in county court.
The county judge has the honor of representing the citizens in all official duties.
Several areas where I thought I could help the county were financial management with my banking background, organizational planning and management with my years in leadership with churches, hospital administration, business development, and a spirit of cooperation among all parts of government.
In my first 12 months in office, at close of business on 12.31.2015, we moved the county from a -$21,000 cash flow balance in 2014 to a positive balance of $215,000. Since then, we have built that balance to a few million. My team has improved the paved road infrastructure by 300 percent and own all of our own equipment. Furthermore, the county has actively partnered with each of our 5 cities to bring improvements county-wide.
I plan to continue building on our success. The quorum court recently approved the purchase of 60 acres in the county for us to be able to harvest gravel, dirt, and sand, build a shooting range for our law enforcement community, and dedicate a few acres to help manage vegetative debris.
I plan to re-invest in our winter weather equipment. We bought 2 plows and salt spreaders early on in my career, and due to our recent hard weather event, we are looking to adding additional equipment. We are also discussing a partnership with our municipalities for a liquid de-icer plant.
We will continue to vast improvement of our paved road system, continuing adding new miles of paved roads, while managing our nearly 700 miles of gravel roads.
