Occupation Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner
As the current Harris County Commissioner for Precinct 4, I have a proven record of delivering results and strengthening our communities. I am a proud Latina from Laredo and mother of three daughters. Raised by teachers, I learned to value education, hard work, and service from an early age. I graduated from Harvard University and Yale Law School thanks to scholarships, multiple part-time jobs, and student loans I am still paying. My experience as a civil judge, attorney, public school teacher, and nonprofit executive has shaped my approach to fairness, evidence-based policymaking, and community-centered leadership. I am running for re-election to continue building a safer, healthier, and more prosperous Harris County for all families.
To improve affordability and quality of life, I raised the property tax exemption for seniors, supported small businesses, and delivered infrastructure projects to enhance parks, mobility, road safety, and flood protection. I helped raise the minimum wage for Harris County employees and contractors and developed the County’s first worksite safety policy. I will continue investing in workforce development and apprenticeships to support good jobs. To keep families safe, I championed funding for the violent crime task force, additional courts, domestic violence prevention, and mental health care. I will keep leading with heart, hustle, and higher standards and will continue making Harris County a safer place where everyone has a fair shot.

Occupation Harris County Commissioner's Office Precinct Three
I was honored to be elected and serve 8 terms as Harris County Commissioner of Pct. 3. The most recent County redistricting saw much of Pct. 3 which I represented, being remapped within what is now Pct. 4. During my time as County Commissioner, I developed a park system of over 60 varied parks on 15,000 acres, 68 miles of hike/bike trials, established 8 community centers, 2 high-tech Senior Education Centers, maintained over 1,800 miles of roads, and 5 miles of bridges in an area of 453 square miles with 306 of those square miles in the unincorporated area. My experience providing constituent services, managing people, policy, and working within the Precinct and County budgets uniquely places me to take the role of Precinct 4 Commissioner.
The rise in Harris County’s property tax rate and out of control spending must be addressed. To curb spending and give relief to the taxpayers, we must get back to basics. Funding statutorily mandated responsibilities of the County such as law enforcement and infrastructure must be primary. We must also rebuild a solid fund for disaster related events. We need to stop creating new administrative departments and slice out the deadweight bureaucracy that has grown over the last 6 years. I will work to ensure the County meets its obligations, continues to improve quality of life, and is a good steward of your tax dollars by setting budgets and funding programs related to the County’s statutory authority not already funded through other means.
