Occupation Lawyer
I attended the South Texas College of Law, while working as a Houston Police Officer, and have been licensed to practice law in Texas since 1998. For the past 27 years, I have practiced law in Harris and other counties, with a focus on civil disputes, family law, and arbitration. I have handled hundreds of cases from intake through trial, appearing regularly in district and county courts. This hands-on courtroom experience has given me deep knowledge of the issues that come before this bench. I am running for this position because I believe my background equips me to uphold the dignity of the court while addressing the needs of litigants, attorneys, and our community with compassion and efficiency.
The most pressing issue I anticipate facing as a judge is the case backlog: Harris County's growing population and increasing civil filings—driven by disputes over contracts, personal injuries, and property—leads to delays that can stretch to years. This frustrates litigants and undermines public trust in the judicial system. My specific plan to address this includes implementing a tiered docket management system where cases are categorized by complexity upon filing. I will prioritize alternative dispute resolution options like mandatory mediation. Another issue is the ability or willingness of the Court staff to adequately assist litigants' access to the Court. Mentoring and training staff adequately will help alleviate this problem.
