Lake Park’s biggest threat is unmanaged growth that outpaces our infrastructure, housing affordability, and quality of life. As Palm Beach County continues to grow, our small town risks being overwhelmed by traffic, rising rents, and strain on public services. We must address this by insisting on smart, responsible development—prioritizing infrastructure upgrades, protecting neighborhood character, and ensuring that new development includes workforce and affordable housing. At the same time, we must invest in public safety, resiliency, and long-term financial stability so growth strengthens our community rather than eroding it.
Lake Park’s greatest strength is its people. They are an engaged, diverse, and deeply invested community that takes pride in where they live. Our residents, business owners, volunteers, and town staff care about Lake Park and consistently step up to improve it. We should build on this by continuing to foster transparency, community involvement, and partnerships that give residents a real voice in shaping our future. When people feel heard and respected, they invest more time, energy, and trust in their town. Which is what drives lasting, positive change.
If the legislature changes property taxes, it must provide a permanent and predictable replacement revenue source, such as a share of statewide sales tax, so cities are not left with unfunded mandates. Any replacement should grow with the economy and population. In my view, reform should focus on targeted relief for those who need it most. Such as seniors, veterans, and low-income homeowners. Through tools like expanded homestead exemptions or income-based relief, rather than broad elimination that would destabilize local budgets. Protecting the financial stability of cities like Lake Park is essential to maintaining public safety, infrastructure, and quality of life.
In Lake Park, we see the best opportunities for savings in improving efficiency and strengthening our tax base. This includes smarter purchasing, cooperative contracts, and modernizing operations through technology to reduce overhead. We also regularly review outside contracts to ensure taxpayers receive strong value. In addition, we should explore strategic annexation opportunities to the west of the Town of Lake Park that would bring in additional commercial properties and revenue, helping improve long-term financial stability without raising taxes on current residents.
Lake Park is implementing Florida’s new homeless law in a way that is both lawful and compassionate. We work closely with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Homeless Outreach Team, along with the County Homeless & Housing Alliance to ensure that enforcement is paired with real support. Our deputies focus on de-escalation and referrals first. Connecting individuals to shelter, mental-health care, and social services whenever possible. This coordinated approach allows us to keep parks, sidewalks, and public spaces safe and accessible, while also treating people experiencing homelessness with dignity and providing pathways to more stable housing.
