I earned BBA and MBA degrees from Western Michigan Univ. I worked in corporate sales and marketing positions for 20 years prior to becoming a business owner. My business skills were honed further as I ran two very profitable businesses for the next 23 years. These skills also apply to city management. I was elected to Whitehall City Council in 2023. As Council member I have demonstrated leadership, transparency, accountability, and sound financial management which are all needed by the city at this time. I am willing to devote the time and effort required to lead the city forward. Many Whitehall citizens approve of my performance and have urged me to become mayor. The City Manager and I will guide the city to a new level of excellence.
My top goal is to direct more money to repair and replace crumbling roads in the city, because that is our residents' biggest concern. We can redirect money relatively quickly, we just need to refocus on smart spending toward important projects. Secondly, at the same time, our next priority is to improve transparency and accountability so our residents know we are listening to them. Better communication will be crucial. Third on my list is to develop a long term plan for the Playhouse At White Lake, a historic asset which has struggled to be self sustaining. This will be complicated, but it can be done with community support.
In the case of the Playhouse I want to start with a thorough, honest survey of all Whitehall residents to determine their feelings toward the Playhouse. We can then have special meetings to report the survey results, receive comments and honestly explain the finances. I want more residents to be engaged with city government. We already made it possible for more residents to become members of boards and committees. I will encourage them to come to Council meetings or watch the videos. I will push for our TIFA and LDFA authorities to meet at times when more people can attend and/or have the meetings recorded. I would also like to have a digital sign installed in front of City Hall so meetings and events can be publicized better.
