Qualifications for Office
I have been serving as Trustee since September of 2024. I also am an attorney with years of experience working in public service fields. I currently work as a staff attorney for the Honorable Judge Julie Lynch at the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. I am a former assistant prosecuting attorney with the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office. I also interned at the Legal Aid Society.
One of the most significant challenges facing our community is ensuring that we maintain financial stability to sustain services while also promoting growth. There is a housing crisis in central Ohio. There are large housing developments in the works or in the planning stages in our township. Often these developments are accompanied by tax abatements. As a Trustee, I want to ensure that the developers are contributing their "fair share" towards first responders, schools, and infrastructure improvements. We can do this by including conditions in the development agreements. I plan to attend the meetings and be a vocal advocate for Community Benefits Agreements (CBAs) that direct financial payments to our first responders and schools.
Public safety has always been one of my top priorities. We can continue to work to better our community's safety by ensuring we stay fully staffed with high caliber employees and by making sure our first responders and public works crew have the training, tools, and equipment that they need to serve the community to the best of their abilities. We will continue to collaborate with other local agencies to provide comprehensive responses to emergencies and to solve crimes and acquire necessary resources. As for financing, we will continue to work within our budget and look for grants that can help us achieve our goals.
As discussed above, this is one of the biggest challenges facing our community. I plan to work with other community organizations and be a vocal advocate to ensure that developers coming into our community are paying their "fair share" and contributing to necessary infrastructure changes as well as making financial contributions to our first responders and schools. This will ensure we can sustain and even improve public services while still promoting growth.
As a Township Trustee, one of my priorities is to engage with residents and stakeholders and build trust through transparent and consistent communication. We need two-way conversations so that the community has a direct role in shaping the policies that affect their lives. We can utilize a strong digital presence and online engagement to lower barriers for participation. This will also provide residents with convenient access to information. I currently monitor our local social media pages to see what issues are residents are having. I am interested in hosting online question and answer sessions as a way to get information out and to hear from the community so that we can resolve any issues that arise.
In my role as a staff attorney, I frequently help mediate disputes that arise in our cases. The first step is to gather information to identify the stakeholders' needs, concerns, and motivations. The problem itself then has to be clearly identified. Once the problem has been identified, it helps to look for shared interests and areas of mutual benefit. What is key is truly listening and understanding where each side is coming from. After that, it is really about managing emotions. Often, once people feel heard, the emotional reaction tends to stabilize. Once emotions are controlled, it becomes easier for people to find ways to compromise so that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached.
