Thank you for taking time to review my candidate profile. My name is John Gillooly and I am a long time City Councilman in Grosse Pointe Farms. I am uniquely qualified to serve as your next Mayor. For the past 34 years, I have had the privilege of specializing in Municipal Law and have defended an untold number of judges, prosecutors, police officers, public officials and public entities in high profile litigation in state and federal courts.
I am also a regular invited speaker to cities.
Maintaining our AAA bond rating, maintaining low tax rates and working hard on continued improvements to our infrastructure.
Since its inception, I have been involved in the planning of our current sewer separation project. The sewer separation project may lower, by up to 70 to 80 %, the risk of basement flooding within our city. Our project costs are expected to to be near $50 million. As such, we are dedicating the necessary resources in our city to make sure that the project is done to the satisfaction of our city staff and our residents. It is no fun when our streets are filled with dust and construction equipment. However, this is a brief, yet necessary evil.
We will also continue with an ambitious road resurfacing program.
The finances of the City of Grosse Pointe Farms are in very good shape. In fact, our finances are some of the best in the entire state and country in terms of bond ratings, fund balances and pension obligations.
As a member of the Budget Committee, we are very mindful of all dollars spent and how our excellent finances assist us in obtaining lower interest rates, meeting health insurance and pension obligations and in attracting and retaining employees.
It is no secret that many communities are under state guidance for their pension and health care obligations. The City of Grosse Pointe Farms has no such issue and will remain a leader in maintaining our excellent financial forecast.
