How can the County address affordable and/or workforce housing?

What do you see as the best County-wide approach to encourage residents and businesses to reduce waste, including plastics, PFAs (forever chemicals), and nitrogen? Would you lead the way to a cohesive and efficient plan for moving waste off of Long Island?

Too often, communication from elected officials is limited to celebrating successes. Suffolk residents are often unaware of important county issues that would affect them. How would you better communicate and educate them on issues and seek their input?

Proposed Federal funding cuts will increase the burden on the State, County, and Towns. What role should the County play in addressing these shortfalls for needed services?

Name two critical issues facing Suffolk County that could affect your constituents. What role would you play in addressing these issues?

Bio Jarod B. Morris is a lifelong resident of Wyandanch and a passionate advocate for his community. With years of experience supporting local youth programs and strengthening civic partnerships, Jarod understands the challenges families face and works tirelessly to create real solutions. He is committed to improving access to affordable housing, expanding economic opportunities, and protecting the environment, all while ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency. Jarod believes in empowering residents to have a voice in shaping their community and is dedicated to building a Suffolk County where families can live, work, and thrive.
Suffolk County can address affordable and workforce housing without becoming another borough, by pursuing targeted, community-sensitive solutions. Many young adults earn good salaries, yet still cannot afford to live here.

The County should focus on modest-scale development near transit hubs and job centers, encouraging 2–4 story mixed-use buildings rather than high-rises. Updating zoning to allow “missing middle” options, duplexes, townhomes, and accessory dwelling units can expand supply while preserving neighborhood character.

Partnerships with employers, nonprofits, and community land trusts can create and preserve permanently affordable units. Streamlined approvals and density bonuses tied to workforce rents can help make projects feasible while ensuring homes remain within reach of local incomes. At the same time, new housing should contribute its fair share of taxes, generating revenue to support schools and community services. By combining preservation of existing housing, smart new development, and contextual design standards, Suffolk can provide opportunities for its workforce and young families to remain here while protecting the suburban character.
I believe Suffolk County must take a bold, countywide approach to reducing waste, plastics, PFAS, and nitrogen. We must prioritize source reduction, expand curbside organics collection, upgrade wastewater treatment, and support responsible septic replacements. I support strong partnerships with local businesses, schools, and environmental groups to shift behavior and protect our water. I will lead efforts to develop a cohesive, long-term plan to reduce our waste footprint and explore safe, efficient strategies for managing and moving residual waste off Long Island, without burdening future generations.
Too often, communication between elected officials and residents feels one-sided. As your legislator, I would make transparency and dialogue a priority. I will host regular town halls where all facets of the community, families, seniors, small business owners, students, and civic groups, can share their concerns and ideas directly. These forums will ensure residents are informed about county issues before decisions are made, not after. In addition, I will use newsletters, social media, and community bulletins to provide clear updates and explain how proposals impact our district. My goal is not just to celebrate successes, but to build a two-way conversation that empowers residents to help shape solutions for Suffolk County.
I recognize that proposed federal funding cuts will place additional pressure on our County, State, and towns. My approach is to prioritize essential services, ensure fiscal responsibility, and protect taxpayers from unnecessary tax increases. The County must review programs carefully, eliminate waste, and focus resources on public safety, health, and infrastructure. At the same time, I support partnering with towns, nonprofits, and the private sector to maintain services efficiently. Transparency and resident engagement will guide every decision, ensuring the community has a voice in setting priorities. Suffolk County must respond responsibly, maintaining critical services while managing resources wisely for the benefit of all residents.
Two pressing issues in Suffolk County that impact the 15th District are affordable housing and economic development. Too many young families and workers are priced out of the community they grew up in, while opportunities for local job growth remain uneven. As your legislator, I will champion innovative housing solutions like workforce apartments, accessory dwelling units, and “missing middle” homes that expand options without changing our neighborhoods’ character. On economic development, I will focus on attracting businesses that create quality jobs, supporting local entrepreneurs, and cutting unnecessary red tape, ensuring our residents can live, work, and build their futures right here in Suffolk County.
