I’m a retired State of Michigan employee. I worked for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. I have been a volunteer for the Frankfort Zoning Board of Appeals and the Construction Board of Appeals. I am an election volunteer for the City of Frankfort and a member of the Frankfort Housing Commission. I attend several Frankfort City Council meetings each year sharing ideas and concerns for current and future actions by the council. I believe I will bring a common sense approach to decision making by the council. I have a passion for the city and its residents and hope to preserve the charm of the city for generations to come. We stumbled into Frankfort over 20 years ago and fell in love with the city and county. We vacationed here 4 or 5 times a year until 2020. It was then that we were blessed to retire and purchase a small fixer upper in the city. During the past 5 years we have become friends with several locals. We’ve been members of the Eagles, the Lions Club, and are currently members of the American Legion. Several days a week, I have coffee with the older gentleman at Perks of Frankfort. These men were either born here or moved here over 50 years ago. I have learned about the colorful past of this city.
Housing is the most pressing issue facing the city. It’s a juggling act between affordable housing, workforce housing, and short term rentals. Currently, the city of Frankfort allows for 125 short term rentals. I want to find out how that number was chosen. It needs to be reviewed and maybe reduced to 100 or less. The city could grandfather the current members and reduce the number by attrition.
Zoning is another important issue. I am a supporter of the Housing Trust and believe we should do what we can to facilitate attainable housing without sacrificing the charm and character of Frankfort. Any changes need to be done slowly and carefully making sure to listen to the input of the local residents and business owners.
Quality of life for the residents of Frankfort should always be the goal of the city council when making decisions about the future of the city but should not be at the expense of our neighboring cities and townships.
