My involvement in various on-campus clubs and organizations at Grambling State
University taught me the importance of working with people from different backgrounds to
achieve a common goal. This sometime called for putting personal feelings aside and being
open-minded to ideas that were not my own.
My affiliation with both my Masonic Lodge, Jackson Pride 662, and fraternity, Omega Psi
Phi, taught me the importance of networking. Sometimes it not what you know but who
you know. The more people you have working together to achieve a common goal the
easier the task can be.
My experience in supply chain management gave me the understanding how to balance immediate needs versus wants . This comes in handy during budget analysis.
I personally feel our city as a whole in entirely too dark, especially in residential areas. We are in desperate need of more light poles and security cameras throughout the city. This will give a citizens a more secure feeling and help reduce some crimes. Also we need to make sure we continue to take care of our first responders as well as do what we can to continue to improve our hospital and medical facilities as well.
We have a very unique dynamic when it comes to education in Anniston. At last census our population was as round 22,000 people. At that time we had one public high school and 3 private high schools. This puts a strain on having enough qualified teachers to fill the openings. Being a graduate of Anniston High I am a big fan of taking care of my own. I feel the timing is right to create an Alumni group that would be designed to help with funding and help with mentoring students as they transition from school to the real world. Be that post-secondary education, the military or the work force. Funds would help supplement as needed, but not directly controlled by the school board.
