My entire career has been dedicated to serving Mobile. I began as a journalist holding government accountable, then served as an executive director for both the city and county, managing large departments and multi-million-dollar budgets. For the last decade in the state legislature, I’ve passed laws to directly help Mobile fight blight and protect our youth. As Chair of the MAWSS board, I oversee our most critical infrastructure. This unique combination of experience at every level of government has given me a 360-degree understanding of how to lead this city effectively from Day One.
My long-term vision is for a Mobile where growth is both strong and shared. I see a city of safe, clean neighborhoods where quality infrastructure is a given for everyone. I envision a Mobile that is a hub for industry and innovation, where our children have clear pathways from our excellent schools to good-paying local careers. My vision is not just about getting bigger; it's about getting better—protecting our natural assets like Mobile Bay while building a quality of life so high that our families are proud to build their futures right here.
I don’t believe these are competing interests; they fuel each other. A city with a high quality of life—safe streets, clean neighborhoods, and beautiful parks—is a city that attracts and retains the talented people who drive our economy. My approach is to invest in both simultaneously. We will aggressively tackle blight and improve infrastructure because it makes our neighborhoods better places to live and more attractive for investment. A thriving economy gives us the resources to improve our quality of life, and a great quality of life makes our economy thrive.
My budget will be a direct reflection of my priorities for Mobile, focusing on the core services that matter most. My top priorities are Public Safety, ensuring our first responders are fully funded while investing in community-oriented policing and youth violence prevention. We will dedicate significant resources to Neighborhood Revitalization, tackling our long-neglected infrastructure needs and using the blight-fighting tools I passed into law. Finally, we will prioritize Economic and Workforce Development by strengthening partnerships with our schools and supporting the local entrepreneurs who are the backbone of our economy.
My career has been defined by making government more accessible and accountable. When I worked for the city, I created Mobile 311 to give residents a direct line to report issues and Mobile CitiSmart to measure government performance. I also established the annual State of the City event to foster dialogue. As Mayor, I will build on that foundation by ensuring city business, from budgets to contracts, is easily accessible to the public. I will make it a priority to meet with residents directly in their own neighborhoods, ensuring your voice is a fundamental part of the decision-making process.
