After serving on the planning commission for almost 8 years, I'd love to be on the other side of decisions. I'd love to be more involved in the legislative side of making decisions that keep Plain City a safe and thriving community where so many want to raise their families.
The legislature continues to pass laws that don't really work in smaller communities. High density comes at a cost. We zone our land for higher density but that doesn't ensure an "affordable" home. I promise to fight against unfair laws.
#1 Growth. I believe our ordinances are working to keep Plain City the type of place that draws people here. Frontages are important to keep houses from looking too crowded. Landowners have the right to sell their land, but the city should be able to help control that growth. #2 A top question I get from residents is what to do about all the speeding in our city. I will work with the Weber County Sheriff Dept to find some solutions. That may include speed bumps, more patrol presence in the city, more tickets instead of warnings, lower speed limits. I'd love to hear the sheriff office's input and take some action to help resolve the problem particularly on residential streets. #3 Sewer. The founder's of Plain City were very thoughtful and smart to build a sewer that has served our community for years. As our city is growing, the sewer gets closer to capacity. I'd like input from current city employees and professionals to improve the sewer and keep it working for many years.
7+ years on the planning commission. I'm a good listener, communicator, and problem solver. I will listen and help find solutions as I lead the city with integrity and honesty. I have 11 years experience in purchasing so I understand budgets and finding solutions to problems. I work well with groups. I am very aware of giving everyone an opportunity to express their opinions, and then using that information to make a plan. I'm committed to working hard for all residents of our great city.
I love how our community rallies together to take care of each other. Our July 4th celebration really can't be topped. Our beautiful and well-maintained parks are filled with kids playing sports almost year round. Plain City is a place that draws people in. We have small businesses that serve the community well by providing services and job opportunities. We are thriving now and I plan to continue traditions to keep that spirit alive. There is interest in building a rec center, which I think is a great idea! I support cultural events, community events, and extracurricular activities that bring more opportunities to all residents of Plain City.
Plain City government is set up for city council to vote, and the mayor does not. However, the mayor position plays an important role by bringing issues and insight to the council. Currently, Plain City utilizes a city page on Facebook, and sends out a newsletter with each resident's water bill. All planning commission and city council meetings are streamed on Facebook and Zoom. I'd love to include a mayor's message on every newsletter. I'd love to make the city website a little easier to navigate and have a place that's more interactive with residents. I'd love to create an email to which residents can send questions, and then receive a response quickly. Transparency and communication are a top priority to me.
