Washington State Senate District 26

During legislative sessions, the Legislature is called upon to: enact or reject legislation affecting public policy in the state; provide for the levy and collection of taxes and other revenue to support state government and assist local government; and appropriate funds for these purposes. The Senate also has the exclusive power to confirm certain gubernatorial appointments. Although laws are enacted only when the Legislature is convened in formal session, policy issues and the general operation of state and local government are under continuous review by legislators serving on permanent and interim study committees.

Experience (300 characters max) I serve as State Senator for the 26th LD, working to lower costs for working families. I previously served on the Peninsula School Board (2015–2022), co-founded one of the largest grassroots advocacy groups in Washington, that secured $500M+ for schools, and had a career in HR and M&A at Microsoft.
When I led the campaign to rebuild our schools–delivering six new schools after decades of failed attempts–I saw that with a commonsense approach, together we can get big things done. It wasn’t career politicians doing the hard work–it was us. That’s the same attitude I brought to Olympia as your State Senator. Every bill I passed was bipartisan and focused on making lives better, from improving safety on ferries to expanding access to childcare. I proposed the first sales tax cut in Washington in over 40 years because families deserve relief. I voted against an increase in the gas tax and unnecessary taxes on small businesses. Our system is broken. We need leaders who listen, lead with integrity, and deliver results. That’s what I’ve done–and with your support, I’ll keep doing it.
I’m running for State Senate because I believe every family deserves access to strong public schools, affordable communities, and safe and reliable infrastructure. Education has always been a driving force for me, and I’ve seen how critical it is to invest in students, educators, and school facilities. I’m equally committed to addressing the cost of living and housing crises that are impacting families across our communities, and to ensuring our region gets the transportation investments it needs to grow safely and sustainably. I heard about these issues from constituents frequently during the legislative session and continue to hear about them at the doors.

Additionally, with Trump’s Republican budget slashing healthcare coverage for hundreds of thousands of Washingtonians and cutting millions from our schools– all to give a tax break to billionaires– we must do everything we can to lessen the impact of these awful cuts that will fall upon the lowest-income Washingtonians.
Washington can lead in education by expanding universal pre-K and childcare options, especially for working families. I also believe in making college and career pathways more affordable—with expanded access to apprenticeships and in-demand tech and trade programs that reflect our state’s economy.

I proposed the first sales tax cut in Washington state in over 40 years because families deserve relief. I voted against an increase in the gas tax and unnecessary taxes on small businesses. I’ll keep fighting to lower housing costs, hold corporations accountable for price hikes, and make sure every Washingtonian can afford to live and thrive in our state.

Washington has led the way in expanding healthcare access, but too many still face high out-of-pocket costs or coverage gaps. I support building on Washington's progress by capping prescription drug prices, protecting reproductive care, and ensuring rural communities and Tribal nations have strong healthcare infrastructure.
I would place a high priority on increasing public funding for infrastructure in the next two years. Our district has unique transportation challenges, including several ferry routes, the Gorst Corridor, and the Narrows Bridge, which each require unique approaches and solutions. This session I advocated for new funds to reduce Gorst congestion and to get our ferries back to full service - both of which we accomplished. Public infrastructure funding also creates good-paying, local jobs that our community is seeking. With additional funding in upcoming sessions, we could continue to make significant progress on these issues and address the infrastructure needs of our district and our state.
We must respect the rights of responsible gun owners while addressing gun violence in our communities. I support universal background checks, reasonable safe storage laws, and this past legislative session, I voted to implement a permit to purchase firearms—an important step in increasing accountability and ensuring firearms do not fall into the wrong hands. I believe these common-sense measures will help increase public safety by improving accountability when purchasing a firearm, while still providing a fair pathway to gun ownership for law-abiding Washingtonians. By promoting responsible ownership, we make our communities safer and help prevent the tragedies that far too many Washington families have faced.
