Washington State House District 33 Pos. 1

During legislative sessions, the Legislature is called upon to: enact or reject legislation affecting public policy in the state; provide for the levy and collection of taxes and other revenue to support state government and assist local government; and appropriate funds for these purposes. The House also has the exclusive power to bring impeachment proceedings. Although laws are enacted only when the Legislature is convened in formal session, policy issues and the general operation of state and local government are under continuous review by legislators serving on permanent and interim study committees.

Experience (300 characters max) 25+ years of Human Services experience in non profit and government addressing issues of hunger, homelessness, housing, youth development and community safety. Appointed to the WA State House in 12/24. Asst Majority Whip; serves on Health Care & Wellness, Labor, and Community Safety Committees
As a Filipino American immigrant and longtime public servant, I bring a unique lived experience and a 25-year career in human services to my role as State Representative for the 33rd District. I understand firsthand the challenges working families face and have spent my career addressing homelessness, food insecurity, domestic violence, and youth development. In the legislature, I’ve hit the ground running—passing worker protection bills, championing affordable housing, and advocating for marginalized communities. My district, one of the most diverse in Washington, benefits from a representative who leads with empathy, listens deeply, and turns community needs into meaningful legislation. My work ensures that every family—whether in SeaTac, Des Moines, or Kent—has access to dignity, opportunity, and safety.
Workplace Protections for Vulnerable Workers: As the economy evolves, we must ensure gig workers, service employees, and tipped workers are treated fairly. I’ve introduced and passed legislation like HB 1524, which protects isolated workers such as hotel housekeepers from harassment.

Affordable Housing and Tenant Rights: Washington families are being squeezed by rising rents and a shortage of affordable homes. We need to invest in housing, curb extreme rent increases, and ensure tenants are protected.

Community Safety and Justice Reform: Our public safety system must be both effective and just. I’ve introduced bills to improve jail conditions (HB 1424) and strengthen background checks (HB 1490), reflecting a commitment to safety and fairness in our justice system.
One of my top priorities is protecting workers—particularly those in low-wage, gig economy, and service sectors. I will continue advancing legislation that:

Prevents exploitation of rideshare drivers (like HB 1332),

Stops employers from deducting credit card fees from tips (HB 1623),

And mandates safety measures for isolated workers (HB 1524).

These policies honor the dignity of work and ensure every Washingtonian can earn a living without fear or unfair treatment. As someone who worked in city government and nonprofits, I understand the urgent need to create workplaces that are both safe and equitable.
I support increasing public infrastructure funding as a high priority—especially for housing, transit, and community safety facilities. Investments in infrastructure create jobs, spur local economic growth, and build the foundation for equity. For communities in the 33rd District, including SeaTac and Renton, improved infrastructure means better access to opportunity, safer streets, and stronger neighborhoods. Whether it's expanding affordable housing or improving public transit, I will champion smart, community-driven investments that serve both immediate needs and long-term resilience.
I support common-sense gun safety reforms that respect responsible gun ownership while protecting our communities from preventable violence. I’ve backed legislation to strengthen firearm regulations, such as improving background checks (HB 1490) and tightening requirements on gun sales and transfers. Public safety should not come at the cost of constitutional rights—but we must address the epidemic of gun violence with urgency and compassion. By implementing data-driven policies and ensuring enforcement of existing laws, we can reduce harm and make our schools, neighborhoods, and homes safer for everyone.
