I’m running for Port Commissioner because I believe in strong, forward-thinking leadership—and I want to give back to a community that has given so much to me.
The Port of Anacortes plays a vital role in driving economic opportunity and protecting the quality of life we all value.
As Port Commissioner, I’ll work collaboratively with fellow commissioners, to ensure the Port Commission is responsive to concerns of the community by listening to Stakeholders, Partners and Constituents.
I will focus on
Growing commerce, trade and tourism, and creating family wage jobs.
Ensuring the health of the Port for future generations.
And Fiscal responsibility: Seeing that resources are used wisely
Future fiscal constraints; planning for next 10 years balancing growth ensuring family wage jobs and preserving public use that brings in tourism as well as serves our community; last ensuring Port continues with environment clean up projects as well as ensuring new businesses that come into Port District fits in with our environmental concerns.
YES! The Port is were most of our commercial industry exist.
We are part of the Puget sound waterways. We have already experienced flooding in the past, and extreme climate change would only further exasperate issues with flooding. Also the warming waters will affect fishing, which is a large industry here.

I have 40 years as a marine specialist in the insurance industry. I am a lifelong boater and very connected to the marine environment. I have been on the Anacortes Marina Advisory for 10 years, the Anacortes Marine Trades 13 yrs. I am the only candidate with Port of Anacortes experience.
Port of Anacortes Marina Advisory Committee, Anacortes Marine Trades, Anacortes Chamber of Commerce past chairman, Children's Home Society, Woman Dress for Success, Rotary
I have seen some the failures of the port from not being transparent, not listening to constituents, wasting money on projects that never get completed. Involvement in lawsuits that could have been resolved through negotiations at a lower cost. I have sat on the advisory committee and felt that they have not listened to the needs of the people. I have always felt that if you come to the table with a complaint, you need to bring a solution.
I plan to be proactive in community involvement and giving the public a format where they can engage with commissioners. I plan to find new clients for our deep-water port to help with the creating more income, not on the back of tax payors. The north end of the marina is at life expectancy, and I have found that not only do they not have the money to replace it, but they also have no plan. Over more than half of the port's income comes, from the marina. Critical infrastructure is needed to stabilize our port. This position is in my wheelhouse.
I feel that the infrastructure of the port is very important to its vitality. It is important to not only understand business and finance but the marine world in general. Having a grasp on both will ensure that the port remains one of Washington's 8 deep water ports.
Our marina must be replaced to sustain our income base. We need to strive to serve the tenants and guests that come to our marina and provide the services they need to keep them coming back.
Our airport must serve the people that fly there and work on our properties. We need to maintain a good relationship with all of our property tenants and make sure that we do what we can to help them thrive and create jobs for our community.
We always need to be conscience of our environmental impact whenever we do anything on our properties. We also have to be forward thinking and reasonable about the costs that any action we take is affordable. The port has done many environmental cleanup actions and will continue to do so going forward.
The changing climate is a moving target that we will have to constantly consider. The climate has been changing over thousands of years and will continue to do so. With each new challenge we will have to assess what that means to the port, the citizens of our town and act accordingly.
