Army Veteran | Harvard Graduate & Teaching Fellow | Bank Executive | Human Services Commissioner
My experience is unique, and that is the biggest asset I bring to this position; I've led in combat, in business, and I want to be of service to Tacoma. As an Army Ranger, I learned how to lead under pressure, solve problems fast, and take care of the people I was responsible for. In the private sector, I manage complex budgets, build teams, and drive results in a highly regulated environment. I know how to hold people accountable, set clear goals, and make sure operations actually serve the people they’re meant to. I also serve on the Human Services Commission here in Tacoma, where I work on funding decisions that impact real lives. That experience has given me a close look at how city policy plays out on the ground. I am ready to serve the city of Tacoma at a time when I have experience navigating.
I spent nine years in the US Army as an Airborne Ranger Sniper, where I was responsible for leading soldiers in environments and missions that demanded discipline, integrity, and accountability. That experience has shaped how I lead and serve today. Here in Tacoma, I am a Commissioner on the Human Services Commission, where I help evaluate and allocate funding for nonprofits addressing homelessness. That work has given me insight into how our city's resources are used and the analytics associated with budget allocation. I’ve also worked to support veterans transitioning to civilian life, organizing events, career fairs, and resource drives. Service has always been a core part of my life, and I am running for mayor to continue my service.
I decided to run for mayor because I had a look at the qualifications of the city council and the candidates that were looking to succeed the incumbent mayor, and noticed a lack of diversity of thought. Each candidate had the same story and relatively the same education; they were born and raised, went to school in Tacoma, and were active in the community. I believe that a successful discourse and team needs diversity of thought. I bring that. I know the city needs it, and I love this city. That's why I decided to run for mayor of Tacoma.
Public Safety, Economic Development, and Fiscal Acumen.
1) Public Safety starts with trust and resources. I will aim to fully fund our police and first responders. That means making sure they have the tools, staffing, and support to do the job well. But safety also depends on community connection. I’ll work to rebuild trust between the city and the neighborhoods it serves so that safety feels real and shared. 2) Economic Development, three key factors that attract businesses to a city are talent, cost, and ease of doing business. Tacoma has the talent. But right now, that talent is sitting in traffic on I-5 every weekday. We also remain cost-competitive, especially when compared to our neighbors. Where we’re falling short is in the third category: ease of doing business. We’re seen as just as bureaucratic as Seattle, without the name recognition. That perception is costing us growth. As a businessman, I know and understand that, and can change it. 3) Fiscal Acumen, I have it and see it as the primary shortcoming of the current city council.

As a lifelong citizen of Tacoma, I have been involved in many different levels of civic engagement throughout my 56 years in this city. Having lived in a lot of the different communities, I have a firm grasp on the needs and concerns of the people living in Tacoma.
Having grown up I this city, I have always had a deep connection with Tacoma. I have lived in many of the different neighborhoods across this city and directly know the needs and concerns of each of our communities.
Professionally, I have been involved in many of the local art and music scenes throughout downtown as well as the downtown business community.
Tacoma is unlike any other city in Washington and its needs are uniquely our own. To address those issues, it takes someone who is deeply rooted in the communities and who is multifaceted enough to be able to understand the idiosyncrasies that make up Tacoma. I have a long history of successful leadership throughout my professional career that fits well with the needs of Tacoma's City Government. We are desperately in need of a new type of leader in this city to break us free from Special Interests and get back to governing for the citizens of Tacoma. I bring that type of innovative and creative energy that we need.
I have been a member of Tacoma's business community for over 40 years as well as been involved in the local arts scene. I have held integral roles in producing film festivals and events at the local level as well as being involved in our local music scene. I work in the construction industry that has kept me extremely busy throughout the years, leaving me very little time for a lot of community involvement but have made time for my passion regarding this city whenever humanly possible.
I ran in 2021 due to the tensions across Tacoma. At that time, there were no other candidates who were willing to run for Mayor which I found very hard to believe considering the discord amongst the community. Since coming up short in that election, I have never stopped campaigning for this position. I want to bring this city back together and sort out the dysfunction that exists between our local city government and the people of Tacoma. I feel strongly that we need to move things in another direction. Away from Special Interests and back to the business of governing this city with strong, attentive leadership that is willing to put the needs of Tacoma's citizens first. We need to redirect our attention to the voices of this community that go unheard on a daily basis. There are so many issues that are swept under the carpet by our local officials and I want to address those issues head-on and return our city to a place of civic pride rather than civil unrest.
Our biggest issue is the public distrust of local government. There is massive dysfunction between Tacoma City Government, the Tacoma Police Department and the local community. My top priority will be to sort out that dysfunction first and foremost.
Secondly, we are in the midst of a housing crisis. Both in affordable housing as well as housing the homeless. I feel the best answer to those issues starts in downtown Tacoma where we can utilize the buildings and infrastructure that we already have in place to solve those problems.
Third, we need to turn things around regarding local businesses. Many business owners do not feel supported by local city government and have expressed that they feel "it is impossible to do business in Tacoma". That is not a very promising feeling for anybody and I feel we need to listen to those concerns across this city in order to turn things around for our communities that depend on the local economy for their well being and way of life.
I plan on focusing the City Council's attention on getting to the business of hand that should be the concerns of running the city government. All too often, Special Interests lead the City Manager, Mayor and City Council in directions that do not directly benefit the people of Tacoma. I want to lead them in the direction where we can turn around the mistrust that is felt by so many people living in this city. Directing their attention to correcting the dysfunction between local government, TPD and the public.
Downtown is where we should focus our housing concerns. It is the place where we have the most room to grow as well as a rich history of civic engagement with the community. Directing our focus into downtown will help us solve many of the issues that we are facing concerning our multiple housing issues.
Local businesses need less taxation and fees in order to thrive and employ the local community. Local business owners voices have long been stifled and ignored.

City Councilmember: 2020–present; Deputy Mayor: 2024; Pierce Transit Commissioner: 2022–present; Association of Washington Cities Exec Board: 2024–present; Safe Streets Campaign Board Chair; Tacoma Public Library Trustee: 2016–2019; YWCA Board: 2016–2019; Educator, Tacoma Public Schools.
I’ve dedicated my life to public service. Volunteering as a young person, teaching high school, and coaching high school football shaped my early commitment. Over the past five years, I’ve served as a Tacoma City Councilmember and as Deputy Mayor in 2024, taking on leadership roles that have prepared me to step into the role of mayor. I currently chair the Government Performance & Finance Committee and serve as a Commissioner for Pierce Transit. I also represent Tacoma on the Executive Board of the Association of Washington Cities and the Pierce County Opioid Task Force. These roles have given me the experience of navigating complex systems, balancing budgets, and collaborating across sectors. I’ve worked at the neighborhood, city, regional, and state levels—always focused on delivering results that make life better for the people of Tacoma.
I’ve dedicated my life to public service—as a teacher, coach, and elected leader. I spent a decade as a public high school teacher before becoming an instructional facilitator for Tacoma Public Schools. I’ve served on the Tacoma City Council since 2020 and as Deputy Mayor in 2024. Beyond my council role, I’ve worked to improve our community as a trustee for the Tacoma Public Library, board member and former chair of the Safe Streets Campaign, and board member of the YWCA of Pierce County. I also serve on the Pierce Transit Board and the Executive Board of the Association of Washington Cities. Whether in the classroom, on a nonprofit board, or at City Hall, I’ve always focused on service that delivers real results for the people of Tacoma.
After five years on the City Council, I’ve helped lead on Tacoma’s toughest issues—housing, homelessness, public safety, and infrastructure. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but I believe we need a mayor who can bring the council together, lead as part of a team, and guide us through the hard decisions ahead. Tacoma is at a critical moment, and I’m running because I know how to collaborate, communicate, and drive progress. I’ve consistently taken on tough issues—not just talking about problems, but working to solve them. I want to bring those skills and that commitment to the mayor’s office, leading with honesty, transparency, and a focus on building a future that’s visible, tangible, and responsive to the people of Tacoma.
The three biggest issues facing Tacoma are housing and homelessness, public safety, and economic development. We need more housing at all levels—affordable, supportive, and market-rate—to meet people’s needs and reduce homelessness. On public safety, we must take a comprehensive approach that includes police and fire services, alternative response models, safe streets, working streetlights, and sidewalks—so everyone feels secure in their neighborhood. Finally, we need to grow our economy. That means investing in business districts, attracting jobs that pay living wages, and ensuring residents can afford to live and thrive here. These aren’t isolated issues—they’re connected, and we need a mayor who can lead with vision and action on all three.
To address these issues, we need clear execution and leadership that aligns city priorities with real outcomes. As mayor, I’ll work closely with council colleagues, the city manager, and staff to ensure our budget, policies, and services are directly focused on housing, safety, and jobs. I’ll foster stronger collaboration—not just within City Hall, but across governments, schools, and community partners—because we can’t do this work alone. We also need to be creative in how we fund solutions, which means recruiting new investment, growing local businesses, and bringing more jobs to Tacoma. I’ll be a mayor focused on selling our city—attracting people and businesses that help us generate the resources we need to invest in the things that matter most.

Tacoma City Councilmember, 2012-2019; Pierce Conservation District Supervisor, 2008-2011; WA State Gambling Commissioner, 2023-present; Managing Broker and Certified Residential Appraiser, 2013-present
I’ve served two terms on the Tacoma City Council, including as Deputy Mayor. I’ve worked on budgets, land use, housing, and public safety — building coalitions and delivering real results. I’m also a small business owner and certified appraiser, so I understand how policy like housing impacts people on the ground. I know how the city works and how to get things done for the people who live here.
As a City Councilmember, I led efforts to pass paid sick leave, crack down on wage theft, expand affordable housing, and protect our environment. I’ve served on nonprofit boards focused on education and clean water, and I’ve always prioritized transparency, equity, and accessibility in city government. I’ve walked picket lines, knocked thousands of doors, listened to residents face to face, and always showed up for our community.
Tacoma is my hometown, and I believe in its people and the social contract we have to its people. But right now, too many families are being priced out, our safety net is strained, and residents feel disconnected from city leadership. I’m running because I know how to lead, how to govern, and how to get things done. I’m not interested in political theater.
I’m focused on delivering real results. I’m running to make city government more accountable, make housing more affordable, and ensure everyone has a voice in our city government.
Tacoma is facing a crisis in housing affordability, public safety, homelessness and trust in government. Rent and home prices are outpacing wages. Mental health and homelessness continue to stretch our first responders and many residents feel ignored by City Hall everyday. These are deeply connected challenges that require steady leadership, deep community partnerships, and a clear plan to move from short-term fixes to long-term solutions that work for everyday people and not just developers or political insiders.
I have a reputation on the city council for holding people in power accountable and finding pragmatic solutions for complex issues. I will continue to do that as Tacoma’s next Mayor.
As Mayor, I’ll work on building more housing by cutting red tape, speeding up permits, helping legalize more housing types, and turning underused public land into affordable homes. I’ll also expand 24/7 mental health crisis response and work with regional partners so Tacoma isn’t addressing homelessness alone. I plan to support public safety by investing in stronger community outreach, youth programs, and coordinated services to address problems before they escalate. I’ll open government more to the public by making the budget more transparent, rebuilding trust, and involving residents early in decisions that impact their neighborhoods.
My goal is to make Tacoma a city where working families can afford to stay, feel safe, and help shape a stronger future for all of us.
