Town where you live Orting, WA
Experience (300 characters max) I bring a diverse range of life experience including DV, homelessness, chronic childhood trauma, motherhood, and a wide variety of working class jobs. I hold an AA in Sociology and am currently pursuing my BA.
If I am elected, I will continue to authentically interact with citizens through personal interactions around town as a fellow parent and community member.
Orting has a responsibility to its community to prioritize environmental accountability and impact. Living in a unique geographical location poses complex challenges as far as land use and emergency preparedness, and I believe Orting must keep safety and balance in mind when considering growth and development. Keeping Orting sustainable is an existential issue.
As a person coming from poverty, I have intimate experience navigating public service agencies and look forward to engaging with the service side in the near future.
Our town was offered an opportunity to engage in humanitarian exchange when Recovery Cafe asked for public feedback on its Safe Parking Program, and I believe we should encourage and support these programs. Homelessness is not a single person issue and it will not simply go away just because we want it to. We must use our privilege, comfort, and creativity to help those in need. The strength of our community is measured by how well we adapt to challenges and to what extent we help the most vulnerable and struggling neighbors among us. I know Orting can and will continue do better for disadvantaged who ask for our help.
My vision for Orting is a strong community that truly embraces diversity, strengthens connection and understanding through respectful conversation and debate, and refuses to leave behind the most vulnerable among us.
