I m proud to have been the Mayor of Auburn for the past 12 years, and served as a city councilmember for 10 years prior to that. I have a background in finance and a passion for service. I continue to work regionally - focused on public safety, homelessness, transportation and affordable housing.
I have been the Mayor of Auburn for the past 12 years - working every day to provide for the needs and the wants of the residents of Auburn. I have worked hard to create and nurture relationships locally, regionally, state-wide and nationally that will benefit our city.
I bring over 3 decades of direct experience managing large and complex budgets. I worked as a finance manager at The Boeing Company, where I managed budgets ranging from millions to billions of dollars. That private-sector experience gave me a strong foundation in strategic financial planning, oversight, and accountability.
I take great pride in listening to the community and ensuring that our budget reflects both our needs and—when resources allow—our wants. Responsible budgeting is not just about numbers; it’s about values, transparency, and making sure we’re investing in what matters most to Auburn.
Decisions I make on behalf of Auburn are rooted in these three words: Compassion, Accountability and Community.
Community volunteering has been a way of life for me since I was in grade school. My interest in local politics began a bit later. I was appointed to the Auburn City Council in July of 2003, elected that fall to complete a two year term, and then ran successfully to be re-elected in 2005 and 2009. In 2013, I was elected as the first female mayor in the city’s then 122 year old history, and successfully ran for re-election in 2017 and 2021. I still have the energy, desire and community support to continue leading our great city for another four-year term!
Being mayor of my hometown has been an incredible honor—one I do not take lightly. I’m committed to earning and keeping your trust every single day. Auburn has grown and changed tremendously since my family moved here in 1968. We’ve seen exciting progress, and we’ve weathered challenges. Through it all, I’ve worked hard to lead with stability, integrity, and a focus on results.
Now more than ever, we need steady, proven leadership at the local level—leadership that rises above national political noise and stays focused on what matters to Auburn residents: public safety, strong neighborhoods, infrastructure, and opportunity for all.
Public Safety
Homelessness
Safe & Affordable Housing
Public Safety:
I’ll continue offering competitive wages to attract and retain the best officers, invest in new technologies to support their work & sustain our Officer Wellness Program promoting mental & physical health—ensuring officers show up as their best selves to serve our community. I’m committed to collaborating regionally to address broader public safety issues impacting Auburn and South King County.
Homelessness:
I’ll build on the success of our homelessness program, which has been recognized statewide as best practices. In the past 5 years, these efforts have made a noticeable difference, & I’m grateful to residents who have shared that they see the change.
Safe & Affordable Housing:
Updates to our comprehensive plan aligned with new state legislation—will make it easier to build a variety of housing types, like duplexes, triplexes, ADU’s, and homes on smaller lots. In addition, I’m preparing to launch an enhanced rental housing inspection program for safer housing.

I have worked for companies big and small. I have been a consultant in the energy industry. I worked for the world's second largest construction company on a large infrastructure project. I've worked with people from all walks of life and from all over the world. Many of the skills and knowledge I have will translate to the Mayor's position.
I have volunteered at different food banks in the area.
I have done fund raisers for lots of non profits.
The simple answer is Auburn needs New Leadership.
The city has become unfriendly to business and builders and has prioritized the wrong things. Auburn is not as safe as my neighbors would like it to be. I decided to stop complaining and do something about it.
Housing
Economic Growth
Crime
Regarding housing change current policy regarding variances and deviations among other things.
Regarding Economic Growth I would start by repealing the B&O tax among other things.
Regarding crime I would expand the current neighborhood watch, Hire more officers( the city is currently hiring) Community Engagement and outreach programs, A Dare Unit, A Designated Drug Unit a Diversion Program for minors. Among other things.

Yolanda Trout: 10+ years on Auburn City Council, small business owner, and dedicated community leader. She champions public safety, economic growth, and strong neighborhoods. Her proven service with local schools, Rotary, and civic groups shows she’s ready to lead Auburn forward as Mayor.
Serving three years on the Planning Commission and 11 years on the City Council has prepared me to lead. I’ve worked on city budgets, passed ordinances and resolutions, and stayed deeply involved in our community. I’ve built strong relationships across local, regional, state, and national boards, and served as Chair or President on several nonprofit boards. I’ve also worked closely with neighboring cities, local Tribes, and our diverse communities. These roles have strengthened my leadership, deepened my understanding of city government, and given me the experience to serve as your next Mayor.
Public service has shaped my life since childhood. Growing up in a family of 18, we were taught to give back. In Auburn, I’ve served over 17 years, 3 years on the Planning Commission, 11 years on City Council, and on regional and nonprofit boards as Chair or President. I’ve also volunteered with food drives, mentored youth, and worked with service clubs like Rotary. My focus has always been on lifting up our community and connecting people with the tools they need to thrive.
After 11 years on the City Council, I’ve seen major changes in Auburn, among our staff, businesses, and even within the Council itself. I’ve watched as both small and large businesses have left, and I’ve seen growing division among councilmembers. I’ve felt this shift coming for a while, and I believe it’s time for steady, experienced leadership that can bring people together. That’s why I decided to run for Mayor, to help guide Auburn forward with unity, transparency, and purpose.
Our youth crime
Public Safety
Economic Development
1) Tackling youth crime takes collaboration among schools, families, law enforcement, and community groups. I’ll invest in after-school programs, tutoring, mentorships, and safe spaces. Life skills like conflict resolution and mental health support will be a focus. Building trust between police and youth is key to lasting change.
2) Public safety means more than policing, it’s about meeting community needs. I’ll ensure officers are well-trained, well-equipped, and accountable. I support neighborhood block watches, community forums, and beat-specific assignments to build trust and improve response.
3) I’ll drive economic growth by expanding our Business Expansion Program, streamlining permits, and supporting local entrepreneurs through partnerships with the Chamber and Green River College. Community input and regional collaboration will help attract new businesses and reduce poverty.
