Experience (300 characters max)
Current Lakehaven Commissioner, previously professional civil engineer, non-profit business owner, educator. Community leader and volunteer.
I bring skills in public administration, engineering, leadership, and community service to the utility. The utility needs strong, qualified leadership from those who understand the industry and the needs of the community. I am a professional engineer with a master’s degree in Civil Engineering focused on water and a master’s degree in Public Administration. Good engineering and planning are essential for reliable water and sewer service, and I bring that perspective to the board. I want to continue to serve Federal Way in this capacity.
I am running for this office because I am passionate about water and the Federal Way Community. Water has been the focus of my civil engineering profession, and I also enjoy water recreation. My husband and I have lived in Federal Way over 35 years, raising six children, and have family history in the area going back to the early 1900’s. I have been very active in the community, leading in various non-profit organizations for over 30 years. I know that serving builds community and increases appreciation, communication, and understanding. As a Commissioner, I lead the non-profit special purpose government water and sewer utility as a public servant, and am motivated to provide great service and maintain our assets with reasonable rates.
The most significant issue facing our water and sewer district is aging infrastructure. Our main treatment plant is over 30 years old, and is in need of expansion to meet the needs of the population over the next 30 years and to meet tightening discharge regulations. The Commissioners and utility leadership have had the foresight to plan and implement solutions for these future needs. I will continue make sure our facilities and assets are ready to meet our water and wastewater demands.
Clean water impacts everyone’s health. The core mission of the water and sewer district is the continued delivery of safe, reliable and high-quality drinking water and environmentally responsible sewer service. We take that mission seriously, and exceed environmental regulations.
