Town where you live Longview
Experience (300 characters max) 41 years industrial infrastructure inspector, and a water filter plant/ wastewater operator. 35 year union labor leader. Two decades as a volunteer Lieutenant firefighter/ EMT. I have also been a credit union board member, a CASA, an election volunteer, and a mentor for high school kids.
I plan to treat every citizen of Longview with the respect, dignity and courtesy that all people deserve, regardless of party affiliation, religious preference or socio-economic status. I will listen to all opinions and work to collaborate and find result-based solutions to problems.
Environmental issues need to be addressed in every pertinent issue the City Council deals with. The zoning and permitting processes already in place need to be strictly adhered to, and resources allotted o address any new concerns.
I was a 35-year labor leader specializing in contract negotiation and conflict resolution. I spent two decades as a Lieutenant volunteer firefighter/EMT, and an EMT instructor. I've also been a board member in a local credit union, a Cowlitz election volunteer, and a youth sports coach. I was a CASA (court appointed special advocate) arguing in court for children with no voice of their own. I also spent many years as a high school mentor, teaching young theatre students stage-craft, and set-building techniques.
We in Longview have a wide array of services available to help our un-housed neighbors. These range from drug counseling, mental health evaluation and treatment to help with such issues as resume-building and job placement. We have HOPE Village, a micro-house, fully managed facility modeled after the Housing First model which recognizes that stable housing is a prerequisite for addressing other challenges such as substance abuse and mental health issues. We have had considerable success with this program, and I believe it is worth Continuing, and expanding.
I envision Longview as a great place to work, play and live; a place where everyone has economic opportunity and the chance to live in peace and harmony. I think we need to make our city as attractive to potential employers as possible, in order to increase our tax base. We have a great school system, LCC college, some of the most beautiful parks anywhere, an amazing "urban forest" a wonderful city library, and top-notch emergency service systems. Our city is an extremely livable city, with an abundance of outdoor experiences available, as well as a plethora of organized activities and sports leagues for our youth.
