20 year city resident. 8 years as city council member, 6 of those years serve as Mayor Pro Tem with multiple time serving as presiding official. Familiar with all aspects of the city and has initiated cost reduction programs for city, saving residents money (keeping water and sewer rates as low as possible and reducing city expenditures.) 44 years as a public servant, serving as Firefighter/EMT Lieutenant (Ferrysburg 17+ years), Emergency Medical Technician (MFR/EMT/Specialist), Police Officer and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (Ret). Researches all aspects of issues coming to council and considering what is best for the residents of Ferrysburg.
1. Develop Core Commercial Zone of city to better promote the city and improve tax base. City needs to be a destination point for visitors and to keep the city a great place to live.
2. Reintroduce City Representation in Lansing. For over a decade the city had a representative for the city in Lansing. This facilitated getting funds to replace the Smith Bayou Bridge and to help stop legislation that was not beneficial to the city. The last 2 years there has been no representation, and the legislature passed that could have negatively impacted the city.
3. Plan for the future and be forward thinking and planning for future financial needs of the city. As expenses are steady increasing, we need to stop unnecessary/wasteful spending programs.
Answer emails and try to keep residents informed about important issues facing the city. Some issues are complex and need some explanation.
I would encourage residents to bring ideas to improve our city to light either through email or at a council meeting. The council works for the residents, not the other way around.
I would encourage all residents to become involved in telling the council what opinion are on topics on the council agenda.
Will meet personally with anyone to discuss any issues or concerns.
Everyone's voice matters.
