I am the best qualified candidate for this position because of my existing commitment to the Ypsilanti Township Parks Commission and Ypsilanti Township parks. I have attended every Parks Commission meeting this year and have considerable knowledge of most of the parks, having used them as part of the Ypsilanti Rugby Football Club and as a father of a five-year old.
My goals are to continue to attend every Parks Commission meeting; work to have our community parks host more events; add or update parking, restroom facilities, athletic fields, and pavilions; and reach out to neighborhood groups, athletics clubs, and community organizations to get greater community input and involvement in the parks. It is important that neighborhoods have an opportunity to give feedback and direction for how their parks are used. I would accomplish these goals using existing funding and revenue generated by hosting more events at our larger community parks.
One project I would like to see the Parks Commission bring to fruition is the construction of a new pavilion in Clubview Park.
Parks should play a central role in the social life of a community. They should be frequent gathering places for neighborhood and community events.
