Biographical Information

What in your background qualifies you to serve as a member of the Boerne ISD Board of Trustees?

What are the most pressing issues facing the Boerne school board?

What are citizens and parents telling you about their school district concerns?

My background includes 20 years of combined experience as both a corporate professional and charitable volunteer, and 9 years involved in BISD in many different capacities. I am a current mother of BISD students and have a master’s degree in public administration. My strongest qualifiers are my life experiences. As a military/veteran spouse and daughter of a public-school teacher serving on school board is an opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice that was taught at an early age. I will serve and use fostering the love of learning in each student as my focus when making decisions.
Communication can help our challenges. BISD has faced continued growth with limited increases in state funding for years. This impacts the decision-making process of the leaders in the district. By strengthen the communication between the district, the school board and the community we can continue to strengthen trust and transparency. The strongest component of communication is being proactive instead of reactive. We need to educate by communicating with the families and employees within the district preemptively. We can build trust with the community by continuing to engage and listen to their input and take actions with it in mind.
Parents tell me BISD school district is deeply committed to public education, prioritizing student well-being and success above all else. As a Board member I will strive to foster a love of learning in every child by empowering teachers with resources and support needed. Transparency, fiscal responsibility, and strong community engagement are key values guiding these efforts. By fostering open communication and collaboration, they create an inclusive environment where students thrive. Helping the school board focus on educational excellence ensures that all children have access to quality learning experience, helping them achieve their fullest potential in a supportive setting.
As a twelve year trustee and parent of two BISD graduates, I have had the opportunity to serve on many sub-committees of board service, including finance, facilities, curriculum, bond oversight, and safety and security. These opportunities have given me a broad base of experience. Prior to my election to the board, I served Kendall Elementary School as PTO President for three years. Additionally, I currently serve on the Kendall County Parks Advisory Committee, Chicktime Boerne, and have been a board member of the Texas Public Energy Alliance since 2015.
Increasing teacher pay and the current budgetary constraints are significant challenges. Teachers are vital to shaping the future of our society. Boerne trustees must continue to look at ways to increase their salary while challenging our legislators to increase the Basic Allotment which has not changed since 2018.
I most often hear from parents and citizens regarding a few key issues. The need for additional school buses to alleviate overcrowding and shortening of bus routes has been requested. The need for a new football stadium in the near future has been mentioned by quite a few parents. The citizens have suggested the need to increase teacher salaries. Our Budget Strategy and Advisory Committee, which includes staff, parents and community members, have been meeting regularly to discuss opportunities to think outside the box and suggest unique solutions to our budget which will address these issues.
