The 3 most common issues brought up by my voters are utility monopoly, lack of affordable housing and pedestrian safety downtown. Most recently, residents are unhappy with new parking meters downtown. They are not user friendly or cost friendly, especially for quick restaurant pick ups.
As mayor, I intend to continue having a good working relationship with our local law enforcement, I plan on hosting 'coffee hour' at local cafes to meet with community members so they can bring to my attention some of their concerns. I will then present this information to the borough council so we can come up with workable solutions. I plan on having an effective working relationship with the local safety committee and also Mainspring of Ephrata, to see where things need to be improved for public safety. I will encourage the local law enforcement to continue having regular 'meet and greets' with our community.
I will work with the borough council to redesign roadways to ensure safety for users on bikes, buggies, walkers and vehicles. We can also work on improving signage around schools, bus stops pedestrian crossings to insure further safety. We can work toward improving the state of the local traffic signals so as to have fewer malfunctions. I will partner up with with organizations which will help us reevaluate and improve our water and sewer systems. As for funding, with the help of qualified and appointed persons, we will look into the borough's budget to see where we can eliminate unnecessary spending. We will also try to cut existing costs by updating outdated methods of 'business as usual'.
There are several platforms I would be using so as to reach citizens of all ages. I plan on using Social media to reach those who prefer that platform. I also plan on hosting community workshops and forums. Another way to reach the community, especially those who are housebound, would be virtual meetings. Sending out surveys and polls via email and snail mail for residents who prefer those means of communication. Another option would be resident portals that can be reached via the borough website.
