Integrity is the most important quality in a judge. Judicial integrity requires a judge to be fair, honest and impartial in applying the law to the facts and parties before the court and to not litigate from the bench, but to respect the laws and rules that have been legislated. Integrity also requires the judge to be respectful in her/his position as a servant of the law.
While I believe I would be able to preside over most any case objectively and fairly, I would recuse myself from a case in which I had personal knowledge of the facts in dispute, a close relationship with a party, a substantial financial interest in the case or some other significant factor that could be construed to be unduly influential.
