Born in Pittsburgh to a single teenage mom, I grew up in the Hill District, South Oakland, and public housing in East Liberty. Elected as State Rep in 2012, I fought for minimum wage increases, transit, education, and criminal justice reform. Tragically, I then lost my sister to gun violence in 2016. I bring all of these perspectives to my role as Mayor and have delivered 1,600 units of affordable housing, a 45% reduction in gun violence, and a historic $600 million investment in Downtown.
Pittsburgh drives the region’s economy. My vision is a Pittsburgh for all of us, with affordable housing, strong communities, and a vibrant Downtown. As Mayor, I helped secure the 2026 NFL Draft, bringing new jobs, tourism, and investment. Partnering with Gov. Shapiro, we delivered $600 million to revitalize Downtown—adding 1,000+ housing units and investing in public spaces. We also secured $300+ million for affordable housing, workforce development, infrastructure, and youth programs. We’ll continue investing in youth jobs, expanding programs like Learn & Earn, and supporting small businesses through fairer contracting. Together, we’ll grow an economy that works for everyone.
Equitable access to investments across all neighborhoods is core to my administration. We created a robust Neighborhood Services Team to proactively reach underserved areas, recognizing that need isn’t always reflected in 311 calls. We also meet regularly with dozens of community organizations, who are invaluable in pointing us to gaps in their neighborhoods. We’ve created objective tools to prioritize services like demolition, paving, and park upgrades based on need and map investments to ensure geographic equity. And by coaching staff on operational excellence, we save taxpayer dollars. By focusing on safe working conditions in DPW, we saved almost $10M in workers' comp payments (half a year's paving budget).
I lost my sister to gun violence in 2016 in an incident that has deeply shaped how I view gun violence as a public health issue. In a second term, we will expand on what we started in my first term, where we began addressing the root causes of crime by investing in anti-violence community organizations, hiring more social workers, and further building out the community policing and co-response models that improve police-community trust and efficacy. That work resulted in a reduction in homicides by 33% and a reduction in non-fatal gun violence incidents by 44%. I am also proud to have received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction in recognition of our tremendous progress addressing gun violence.

I’m going to bring a decade of experience on City Council and three years as County Controller to the Mayor’s office. I’m ready on day one to be a Mayor for everyone. Residents’ concerns and priorities will be my concerns and my priorities. I’m going to take their quality of life concerns seriously and treat them as a real priority, not an afterthought. We need a government that’s able to effectively and consistently deliver its core services because everyone in Pittsburgh deserves better.
The Mayor should take an active role in ensuring every neighborhood’s success. I’m committed to strengthening and revitalizing our main street business districts with a focus on community and economic development that invests in the business districts and commercial corridors around which communities are built. Every Pittsburgh neighborhood deserves a strong main street that brings job opportunities and economic activity. That benefits both longtime and new residents.
It’s the Mayor’s duty to serve each neighborhood equitably and ensure they can each be uniquely resilient and vibrant. I’ll do that by coordinating decision- and policy-making with leaders of every Council District, and connecting our region’s network of resources with each neighborhood to create equity in how we deliver programming and services. Regardless of your zip code, you are owed a city that works, a city that is transparent, and a city that is growing to meet the future.
Approaching firearm violence issues with a public health lens allows us to invest in anti-violence, prevention, and harm reduction initiatives that root out gun violence in communities. As Mayor, I’ll commit resources on day one to improve dispatch, emergency response funding, and community-based safety sites to build trust back into our operations and respond to the needs and expectations of communities and populations in Pittsburgh.
