Teacher
While serving as Mayor from 2021 - 2025, I've often reflected on my experiences as a classroom teacher and school principal. I know how important it is that all people know that they have a right to thrive, and that the Borough of Rutledge, or any public institution, should exist to help people realize that vision. This alignment to the public good requires extensive listening, curiosity, and advocacy. It also allows for recognition and celebration. I've instituted the Good Neighbor policy and promote neighbors' accomplishments year-round.
I've worked closely with the Rutledge Borough Council to promote transparency and engagement with public service, public safety, and the public good. For example, I've created a monthly Mayors Update newsletter that highlights community opportunities and municipal priorities. I also speak with and listen to council members and staff to ensure that we have a shared understanding – and practices – that advance efficient climate planning, emergency services, and volunteer opportunities.
My first priority is public service. I want to work with our community to ensure that we recognize and act on opportunities to help our borough thrive.
The second priority is public safety. Rutledge is a wonderful community. We are working hard to ensure that we support and have access to first responders, especially with the threat of climate instability and inconsistent access to ambulances and hospitals. Our health and wellness is also affected by access to nature.
The third priority is the public good. I am committed to advancing stories, practices, and assessments of our formal and informal efforts to advance our aspirations: stable climate, walkable and rollable communities, equitable healthcare options, and engaged neighbors.
