Jennifer for Magisterial District Judge
occupation
Attorney
I have been a practicing attorney for over 20 years. I have prepared clients, litigated cases and helped clients process the results. I have mentored and trained attorneys. I am a member of the Executive Board of the Delaware County Bar Association Board of Directors. This role puts me in constant, close contact with the Board of Judges. I intimately understand how the court operates. Having been a non-profit attorney has put me in the unique position of understanding the struggles of every day citizens of Delaware County. I know that if a case is continued it can have a ripple effect on an individual. If elected I plan to make the Court professional, ethical and user friendly.
I have practiced in every division. While my practice has been primarily Family Court, I have utilized my experience to expand services to the clients I represent. I have been appointed Guardian Ad Litem in the Orphans Court. I represented older individuals who were being abused. I have also recently been appointed Guardian in the Criminal Court to help children who have been victimized have their voices heard. Preparing clients and understanding the rules in which the Court operates is key. Anticipating your opponent's argument makes your own argument stronger. I take the Rules of Professional Conduct very seriously.
The intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system needs to be addressed. I often see individuals incarcerated due to mental health issues. I would like to see an expansion of mental health services for individuals in Delaware County. I have witnessed people being incarcerated for longer than necessary due to the lack of mental health facilities. We often hear, "we are waiting for a bed". I find this unacceptable. Prison is not the solution to mental health issues and I would go so far to say, it is likely making the situation worse.
