Position/philosophy statement
I support smart growth for the changes that are coming to Saluda and find the funding we will need.
Current Occupation
Registered Nurse Educator
I have worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 30 years, with over 20 of those in leadership roles. Working in the ED as a trauma nurse, I have learned to prioratize and lead when I must and work as a team member when needed.
1. Using smart growth to manage local development carefully to protect our historic downtown and surrounding green spaces. We need to stay ahead of the programs (Rails to trails; North Carolina Main Street Program) that are coming our direction.
2. Find funding for the infrastructure upgrades we need, such as modernizing our water, sewer, and road systems to safely support our residents and seasonal visitors.
3. After Helene, I realized that we need to create transparent, open channels between city leaders and residents so every voice is heard and will help shape Saluda’s future, and no one is left out.
My priority would be to ensure this growth is meticulously managed, to serve our residents first, support our businesses, and welcomes visitors without overwhelming our historic town footprint. An actionable, resident-first leadership plan for Saluda’s preparation and municipal strategy involves smart infrastructure expansion to prepare before the influx of visitors arrives. As Mayor, my role would be to actively coordinate with the Saluda Grade Trail Conservancy and plan for parking and traffic mitigation to prevent congestion downtown and visitor overflow into residential neighborhoods. Also ensure pedestrian safety and walkability that allows access to our downtown businesses.

My experience as Mayor of Saluda has prepared me to lead with steadiness, transparency, and practical problem‑solving. I’ve guided our community through major challenges, including Helene and the wildfires, strengthening emergency coordination and communication. I work closely with residents, businesses, and regional partners to improve infrastructure, support local commerce, and protect Saluda’s small‑town character. My skills in collaboration, crisis response, and responsible budgeting make me an effective, community‑centered leader.
My top priorities are: (1) Strengthening infrastructure and emergency readiness, ensuring Saluda is resilient after challenges like Helene and the wildfires. (2) Supporting local businesses by improving access, communication, and year‑round economic stability. (3) Protecting Saluda’s small‑town character through responsible planning, preservation, and transparent decision‑making. These priorities reflect what most directly impacts residents’ daily lives and our long‑term vitality.
To address our top priority of strengthening infrastructure and emergency readiness, I will continue improving communication systems, updating response plans, and coordinating closely with county and state partners. I’ll focus on repairing vulnerable infrastructure, securing grants, and ensuring our first responders have the tools and training they need. By combining proactive planning, community input, and strong regional collaboration, we can make Saluda more resilient and better prepared for future challenges.
Serving as Mayor of Saluda has been an honor, and I remain committed to leading with integrity, transparency, and a deep respect for our community.
