Communities thrive when residents are informed and engaged. My top priority is to improve overall communication between the board and residents. With over five years of attending board meetings, I’ve observed multiple opportunities to improve how information is shared. For example, I will advocate for more detail in meeting agendas, updates on old business, and more budget meetings that provide meaningful data. This empowers residents to be informed and engaged in the budgeting process of their money. By improving consistency, clarity, and collaboration, we can build a stronger, more connected community. I look forward to providing leadership in Richmond that listens to residents and makes decisions with clarity and accountability.
A strong community is built on respect, fairness, and open dialogue. I would engage the board to promote civility by better explaining decisions, informing, and engaging with residents. Specifically, I will advocate for clearer explanations of state statutes, ordinances, and policies during decision-making. This will help build trust by ensuring clarity, fairness, and consistency in decision-making. I also support structured public comment opportunities so residents can voice concerns and receive clear responses. By making board decisions clearer and encouraging public input, we can create an atmosphere of trust and cooperation. When residents feel heard and respected, we can work together more effectively for the good of Richmond.
When I first read this question, I didn’t have an answer, so I researched family dynamics, income, housing, education, age, etc. Based on this data, our most pressing social service issue is our aging population. Richmond Township’s average age is 50.3, over 10 years higher than Walworth County. As people age, health care access becomes a major concern. Many older adults in rural areas own homes but struggle to age in place with maintenance, transportation, and in-home care. Since Richmond Township doesn’t administer social programs, our best approach is to inform residents about resources like ADRC, Medicare, BadgerCare, etc. and non-profit groups aging residents could utilize. Data from Census Reporter and the American Community Survey.
