I am a big fan of Wheaton! It has been a privilege to reside here for nearly 40 years with my wife and our two children. I am running for office to continue the positive momentum that Wheaton has. During my four years on the council thus far, I have helped advance economic development through projects like the downtown streetscape, French market renovations, road improvements, and new restaurants and tent on Hale Street. Wheaton maintains a AAA credit rating and we've avoided increasing our tax levy for the past six years. I am committed to continuing my service as your council member with an approachable and decisive style, motivated by the opportunity to serve our residents.
Staffing & Succession Planning: Our long-standing City Manager is retiring, and we have an open Assistant City Manager position. Filling these roles is a top priority for City Council to maintain Wheaton's positive momentum and ensure strong city services and economic development. Resident advocacy is crucial. Wheaton must listen to residents to ensure proper programs and safety. For instance, as a residential community, Wheaton must improve our sidewalk network and traffic controls so children and families can fully enjoy everything Wheaton offers.
Collegiality with the board is crucial. Over the past four years, I've enjoyed building rapport on our high-functioning City Council. Though we don't always agree, our engagement is genuine. I approach matters with open ears and opinions, striving for healthy discourse as we serve you, the residents.

I taught my children our values- to step forward, actively connect family of varied faiths & traditions, serving the unhoused, teaching sports, doing for neighbors. As a Scout leader, a Historic Commissioner, an emergency responder, a graduate of Wheaton’s Police, & Fire, Citizen academies - I know our depth and challenges require a catalyst. Success without losing details, analysis while understanding perspectives, a listener who also upholds our Country’s core values. I’m Syed: for Growth, Service, & Unity.
Our level tax levy veils aging infrastructure & bulging costs since Covid. Transparently balancing today, long-range needs, and the taxpayer’s burden demands holistic strategies, stakeholder collaboration, an innovative growth mindset. I help companies grow and scale to realize investment potential sooner, and am confident that together we can solve this- while also improving services.
We residents want safe, stable neighborhoods, and flourishing businesses- along with a broadened sense of security. These don’t have to be mutually exclusive - my proficiency is an analytical, tech-based approach to delight the customer.
