A School Board member sets the district’s vision and direction, represents the community, adopts policy, approves the budget, and holds administration accountable while keeping students at the center of every decision. The board’s priorities should include student success and well-being, support for teachers and staff, fiscally responsible and thoughtful policy, safe learning environments, and strong family and community engagement.
I support a balanced approach that strengthens learning, behavior, and mental health together. This includes early identification of learning gaps, strong tiered supports, and meaningful enrichment. Consistent, proactive behavior expectations and early family engagement are key. I also believe investing in training for teachers and staff, investing in mental health supports, and continuing to strengthen community partnerships help address student needs before challenges escalate.
If elected, I would address funding challenges through responsible budgeting, long-term financial planning, and transparent communication. I would prioritize classrooms, student learning, and safety while clearly explaining how school funding works and where state funding falls short. By engaging families early, building trust through accountability, and planning ahead, we can make informed decisions that support strong public schools while respecting taxpayers.
Education and mental health professionals play an essential role in shaping curriculum and school policies because of their training and direct experience with students. Teachers, counselors, psychologists, and administrators should guide instructional and support decisions using research and data. The School Board should set policy, ensure accountability, and collaborate with professionals while respecting their expertise to support student success.
The Hamilton School District has taken important steps to prevent and prepare for potential violence by partnering with school resource officers and local agencies, using threat assessment teams, offering anonymous reporting tools, and conducting regular safety drills and emergency planning with local law enforcement. Continuing to strengthen training, communication with families, and proactive reporting will help ensure schools remain safe, prepared, and responsive.
