Amendment I Constitutional Bail Exception /Enmienda I Excepción constitucional de fianza por asesinato en primer gradoption for First Degree Murder /

This measure restores the ability of judges to deny bail to a people charged with first degree murder when certain criteria are met and makes first degree murder suspects ineligible for bail. If passes, it fixes an unintended consequence of Colorado s abolishment of the death penalty, as there is no longer an exception to the bail requirement for first degree murder, and differing interpretations emerged on whether or not a judge must set bail in these cases.Click here to view a LWV Overview of all statewide Ballot Issues.Click here to read the LWV Informational website page for this ballot issue.Ballot Language: Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution concerning creating an exception to the right to bail for cases of murder in the first degree when proof is evident or presumption is great?Additional campaign finance information for this measure may be found on OpenSecrets: https://www.opensecrets.org/ballot-measures/CO/2024/summary
