I first volunteered to become a member of The Town of Amenia Recreation Committee, then took a position in the Amenia Building Department. I saw that a lot of my fellow residents needed government’s help, so I agreed to be appointed to the Town Board in 2024. Since then, I’ve met many constituents who have trouble making ends meet, particularly seniors and working families. As the only candidate who is a full time Amenia resident, I’m also worried about the rising cost of living, our children’s education, clean drinking water, housing options, wastewater, and building a new highway garage. I’m running because I support smart growth initiatives that preserve Amenia’s rural character.
I’m a wife, a mother of six children, and a school bus driver for the Webutuck School District. I know how to keep everyone moving in the same direction. I have a background in customer service, where I was trained to research an issue to find worthwhile solutions for the constituent. I have lived in this area my whole life and have deep roots in this community. In addition to driving a school bus, my children go to public schools and I’m a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for VFW Post 5444. And as a sitting member of the Town Council, I understand the many unique challenges our community faces.
I view moving the highway garage as the top priority facing the town. The current facility is inadequate and dangerous for the Town employees who work there. The second top priority is improving our infrastructure, specifically our drinking water. Since I was appointed to the Town council, Amenia has suffered through two watermain breaks, impacting hundreds of residents. This cannot be allowed to continue. The third top priority is wastewater. The latest surface water testing shows unacceptable levels of e.Coli and surfactants (soap). These harmful contaminants will eventually seep into our drinking water unless immediate action is taken.
