One of two legislative chambers in the federal government, the House has 435 members, proportionally representing the population of the 50 states, elected to 2-year terms in November of even-numbered years. Representatives must be at least 25 years old, U.S. citizens for at least 7 years, and inhabitants of the state they represent. SC’s 7 congressional districts are redrawn every 10 years by the state legislature. Representatives make federal laws, including taxation, and may declare war or investigate issues of national importance. They can impeach public officials accused of a crime and recommend that they be removed from office.NEXT STATEWIDE ELECTION: June 9, 2026The June 9th election is a statewide primary election to choose who will be on the ballot for the general election in November.
