I am a parent of five amazing kids, a licensed in-home childcare provider, and an early childhood professional with more than 25 years of experience working with children. My background includes working in schools from elementary through high school, supporting families in community settings, and participating on Benzie Central’s Parent Advisory Committee. I understand education from several sides: as a parent, as an educator, and as someone who has watched children with different strengths and needs succeed when adults truly understand them.
I am running because I know what it is like to be a parent watching a child struggle, and I believe families deserve clear communication, meaningful follow-through, and a voice in decisions affecting their children. I bring practical problem-solving, a willingness to ask difficult questions, and a commitment to making sure every student has a genuine opportunity to succeed.
My priority would be using funds where they have the greatest direct impact on students. That means maintaining safe facilities, supporting effective classroom instruction, providing needed student services, and making sure staff have the resources to do their jobs well. Before approving major spending, I would want clear evidence of the need, the expected benefit, and the long-term cost to the district. State and federal funding often comes with restrictions, so we should use those funds strategically without creating programs the district cannot sustain once the funding ends. Spending decisions should also be transparent so families and taxpayers understand where the money is going and why.
My first priority is improving communication and follow-through between the district and families. Parents should understand what is happening, who is responsible for addressing a concern, and how it was resolved. I would support clear and consistent communication expectations across every building. My second priority is meeting students where they are. Children learn differently, and our approach should build skills and confidence rather than rely only on memorization, compliance, or retention. I would examine whether programs are creating meaningful growth, ensure students receive support before they fall further behind, and include families in understanding the plan for their child.

My father and grandfather both served on our school board growing up. I’ve seen the dedication - and often vulnerability - it takes to set policy that best serves students. I now am the wife of a teacher and the mother of a child in early education. I know the people these policies impact.
My work as a nurse practitioner has taught me to truly listen to individuals in our community. I hope to take those listening skills into our education system to better understand residents’ concerns. My goal is to make transparent, fiscally responsible, non-biased decisions that look out for our children.
