I have proudly represented the people of South Texas in Congress since 2017 and delivered close to $8 billion to support our public schools, infrastructure, drainage, public safety and more.
I am a firm believer in preserving and restoring Congress’ Article One powers. Should Democrats take back the House in 2026, I will join my colleagues to place a check on rogue actions by this administration that hurt South Texas.
The First Amendment is integral to being an American. As a member of Congress, I will do everything I can to protect Americans’ rights to free speech and peaceful assembly.
Congress must put a stop to the administration’s reckless tariffs. We have ceded too much power of our trade policy to the executive branch. Our farmers, ranchers, and small businesses need market access - not uncertainty and higher costs. No tariff relief program can replace lost markets, completely cover losses, or drive down costs for the American people.
I have always been a proponent of an all-the-above approach to energy and South Texas remains the best test case for that policy. We have LNG export terminals, wind farms, pipelines, oil and gas production. It is imperative that we continue investing in traditional energy to meet demands, driving innovation here at home, and ensuring everyone has access to clean water.
We must protect Social Security and Medicare and renew the Affordable Care Act Tax Credits. Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill cut half a billion dollars from Medicare and $400 billion from Medicaid, leaving countless Texans in the dust. We must reverse these cuts, renew the tax credits that make health care affordable, and address personnel shortages in health care.
Public policy expert, academic, and community advocate with South Texas roots, 10+ years of policy experience, and grassroots commitment to social justice, democratic integrity, and working families.
The Constitution is only as strong as the democratic institutions that uphold it. We cannot have political democracy without economic democracy. We must rein in the power of big money through progressive taxation and corporate regulation, expand our social safety nets to empower our people's self-determination, and enhance the integrity and inclusiveness of our elections by banning dark money.
The foundation of a free society is freedom of expression and assembly. Legislators, as voices of the people, have a solemn duty to protect these rights - whether it's workers striking, students organizing, or communities marching. I will always defend and encourage the right to protest, speak out, and hold power accountable. These freedoms are the key to a strong and healthy democracy.
Congress has a critical role in shaping tariff policy, balancing the needs of workers, consumers, and long-term economic security. Tariffs are a legitimate tool to protect strategic industries, support domestic workers, and counter exploitative trade practices. Congress must ensure they are used carefully and as a part of a coherent, worker-centered industrial policy, not as political gimmicks.
I support a Green New Deal approach that massively expands renewable energy, upgrades our electrical grid, invests in energy-efficient housing and infrastructure, creates union jobs in clean energy and environmental remediation, and prioritizes communities hit hardest by industrial pollution and climate disasters. Clean energy is the future, and we must ensure it is built by and for the people.
The federal government has a responsibility to promote a healthy a population by guaranteeing healthcare as a human right. I support a Medicare for All system - a single, national, publicly funded program that covers every American from birth to death, with no out-of-pocket fees. First steps include expanding Medicare eligibility, eliminating medical debt, and capping prescription drug prices.
