Arkansas State Senate District 17
The Arkansas State Senate is the upper chamber of the Arkansas General Assembly, consisting of 35 members. Each senator represents a district with about 83,000 people. The Senate works alongside the Arkansas House of Representatives and the governor to create and amend state laws. They also work to establish the state tax rates and annual budgets.Senators serve four-year terms, with elections held every two years for half of the seats. Service in the state legislature is part-time, so many senators have other full-time jobs.

I am running because we need more women in the rooms where the decisions are made. Women are missing representation in many areas that dramatically impact us in particular. I also am running because I have a daughter and I believe in her inalienable right to bodily autonomy and do not think the government should be passing laws that limit women's reproductive freedom. I am a helper by nature and by career, I want to be a voice for the marginalized and oppressed. I want to work to create equity, justice, political rights and inclusion for women and all Arkansans.
I intend to work to ensure that the women in Arkansas, especially black women, have access to excellent prenatal and maternal care, not just options for adoption. I think that comprehensive sex education is a crucial missing piece of this equation and would work to expand science based sex ed for our children that live in the state with the highest teen pregnacy rate in the nation. I believe an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I want to strengthen our transparency and accountability laws for the government, ensuring that the people have access to activities and spending of the folx elected to represent them.
As a Mental Health Professional, I know that the economy and environment dramatically impact mental health and wellbeing. Research shows that lack of access to quality food, education and healthcare negatively impacts our economy, especially for women, children and the elderly. I am a professional listener and problem solver and will bring these skills to the legislature. I am able to relate to most folx due to my various experiences in life, attending and graduating from a rural school, going to college in Arkansas, living in a large city, working in factories and in food as well as being a small business owner and a parent of children who were educated in public schools.
