City of Gresham Councilor Position 3
The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.Gresham City Councilors are elected by numbered position. They serve for a 4-year term (unless they are filling out a partial term) and are elected on a nonpartisan basis.

Public Safety: Gresham needs permanent solutions that properly fund and staff our Fire and Police departments. Every Second Counts in an emergency, I will fight for long term solutions.
Resilient City: Climate change has brought extreme weather- heat domes and record snowstorms aren’t normal. It’s the city’s responsibility to make sure Gresham is prepared for extreme conditions by improving existing housing, updating policy/code, and providing services that help our residents weather the storm.
Build Family Housing: We need to develop housing for families of all kinds. I support multi-generational affordable housing and will work with our educators, nonprofits, law enforcement, community groups to create welcoming safe neighborhoods.
I am a former City Councilor, I’ve done this job before, and I’m ready to get to work on day one. My lived experiences as a single, working mom in Gresham taught me how important it is to be prepared for any outcome – this is why I will prioritize innovative and strategic solutions for the issues facing Gresham. I started community organizing in 1995 when I sent letters to my neighbors to save Gresham Fire Station 72 from closure. Most recently, I completed a Community Organizing Fellowship with East County Rising Community Projects where I regularly met with Gresham residents to help them navigate our city government and school boards. My extensive volunteer experience, my time in elected office, and my organizing background sets me apart.
Gresham needs to update existing infrastructure so that our roads, buildings, utilities, and waste processing can be innovative and more efficient. The Climate Action Plan has outlined a lot of opportunities to improve our infrastructure through a 'climate lens,' and the plan has opened a few new funding doors through Federal programs and grants. Now that Gresham has a new grant writer, I will fight to ensure our grant writing dollars and the opportunities these funds create match the policy goals Council sets and are used where they are most needed.
