City of Cottage Grove Councilor at Large 2-Year Term

The members of a City Council supervise the city departments, either directly or through a city manager or administrator. City Councilors pass laws, set policy, decide which services will be provided, and develop budgets; they negotiate work contracts and make hiring and firing decisions. A city officer must be a qualified elector under the state constitution who has resided in the city before being elected for a period of time that is specified in the city charter. Most Cottage Grove City Councilors are elected by districts known as wards, except for two at-large positions. This position is for a 2-year term. In most cities, the City Councilors are unpaid.

We must center our deliberations on the needs of the times. First and foremost, the challenges are real and tackling them with a united City and representative Council presents the best start to address these problems.

Problems the city faces include: Access to housing Collaboration between the city and the school district and ??? Unhoused Job recruitment Kids opportunities (including community learning opportunities through job training age) Opportunity (including health care) for resource challenged citizens
I am running to learn with the new Council to expand our capacities towards: Uniting CG around shared values! Collaborative planning and learning together in early training and goal setting sessions! Creating Transparent Information flows: Share and Ask Community! Using Shared Values & Information as the core of all Council decisions!
The needs and interests are many and varied. Roads are always an interest, as are expanding basic road and utility access for new building (residential and business).

The interest in funding sources is varied. As a representative of the people of the City, I will work to help in the creation of clear priorities in how to spend existing funds and how to explore outside or extra tax funding (if identified by the community) to advance infrastructure projects.

I am sorry to report I do not have the skills and background of former Council member Chalice Savage who was able to bring $3,000,000 to the city to aid our infrastructure work. I hope that some of the new members will have a clue how to mine grant resources like Chalice?
